klipsch pro media 2.1

I need to replace the subwoofer driver in my pro media set. Can anyone help me out with suitable replacement options, maybe a little better quality than the original? (No offense, Klipsch)

I would think the 8" Tang Band sub driver used in the Danley spud would kick some major butt at only $80.

Not sure if it would fit in the box, however.

I appreciate the input. The driver in the promedia 2.1 sub is 6.5" though.

My understanding is you would probably need to modify the cabinet.  If I remember right, another forum member tried to replace it with a better driver, but ended up needing to refit it entirely.  You might be better off just using another Promedia 2.1 driver.

Unless you buy the Klipsch driver, you are going to change the specs on the sub. The amp, the box size, the ports, and/or the passive (not sure if that's what the 2.1 uses), are all sized and tuned to work with that driver. Also, I assume you know that it's not the amp that crapped out.

An entirely new 2.1 system is under $150, so you might not want to go crazy buying drivers. If I had a 6.5 laying around, I would send it to you for free.

Well. I finally got around to looking at the sub on the 2.1 system to verify that it was the driver rattling. I put the box on the table and noticed a nickel in the port tube on the front. Lol. Turns out my 18 month old had found a nickle and put it in there so when the bass started up that nickel would rattle in the tube. I am relieved and somewhat embarrassed!! I do appreciate all the input!
