jerohm
you replace a 4 ohm woofer from a 3way speaker, with an 8 ohm woofer with otherwise, similiar T/S parmeters? Thanks
JohnA
The crossover point of of the woofer moves one octave from where it's supposed to be; down I believe. John
Audio Flynn
Why would you want to do that sustitution?
kenratboy
Certain death would result... I think it would take a well tuned speaker and mess it up. I have a 15" 3-way system, replaced the woofers, doesn't sound as good. The TS parameters were about the same! ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come. KLIPSCH soon! My computer is better than my stereo!
jerohm
quote: Originally posted by Audio Flynn: Why would you want to do that substitution? because the 4 ohm woofer was defective and are harder (impossible?)to come by in the general marketplace. Since I assume the woofer would be 'limited' by a low pass filter, moving the crossover point down an octave would leave an octave at the top end of the woofer's range, and the bottom of midrange somewhat deficient... correct??? Since we are talking impedance and not resistance (other than Re=3.8(4 ohm) and Re=5.75(8 ohm) is also different), is there anything that can easily be done to help the situation?
