nitestik
My 10" sub is about 8 years old and recently started huming when not connected. Also I have wired it both ways & it persists. Also the sound that does come out is very distorted. I've looked at the amp & speaker & they appear ok. Any thoughts?
Scrappydue
If it is humming with nothing connected if say bad amp or possibly bad driver? Try a different wall plug maybe?
nitestik
Thanks for the advice. It does it in other outlets as well. May need a new drver then or just a new sub.
Paducah Home Theater
May need a new driver If it's not connected as you say, there should be no signal coming out of the amp. If it is humming, that means there is. A bad driver probably doesn't explain why there is a signal when there shouldn't be one. Fried electronics or a ground loop more likely. Curious as to what "not connected" means though, like it's on but no RCA cables hooked up? Or your receiver just isn't on? We had this same conversation not that long ago where a sub hummed when the receiver wasn't on. He replaced an RCA cable and that fixed it, like his old one was pinched. Other people on the interwebs had grounding issues. Not sure what "wiring it both ways" means either. CECAA850
Not sure what "wiring it both ways" means either. RCA or speaker wire I would guess.
