The History Kid
I have a shot at a really nice pair of RS-3 II's (almost mint)...again. I have no need to add additional speakers to my configuration though, and have no need for speakers anywhere else, so that leaves me with the consideration of a potential upgrade. I've been listening to the 3's on back surround duty since August and have loved how they sound. On paper they appear to outperform the RS-42 II's as well. My question though, is if the design features of the RS-42 II with it's dual tweeter/woofer design was a better configuration than the RS-3's single woofer, dual tweeter design. Would I be gaining ground at all, a side step? Or would I be shooting myself in the foot. I don't have the best type of room - it's very small as it's a bedroom, so I may not hear a difference compared to what some of you with larger rooms would. derrickdj1
I don't think the RF 42 will be an upgrade. I have the RS 35's and have not given a second thought on getting RC 52's or 62's.
Fizik
Tricky decision. I really like the way my rs-52's disperse sound, but have not heard the older single driver versions to compare. Since you already have both, how do they sound in comparison? Do you notice a difference with the rs-3's larger diver vs the smaller ones in the rs-42? Also looking at your system, the rs-42 seems the odd one out. You'd have a nice matching setup if you swapped them out for another set of rs-3's. The History Kid
That's my thought Fiz. I love how the 3s sound on rear duty. In my room i don't believe I would hear much of a sonic difference...but when I am on my own with a bigger room I might.
oscarsear
I once ran RS-7's, they were sold long ago. I just installed a pair of RF-42 II's in a new configuration. Really not simple to compare the 2 w/o having them both side by side. Plus the rooms are entirely different. That said....... I do like these RF-42's. They are set rear as opposed to side and the audio is well distributed in a sizable bedroom (5.1). For the $$ the RF's were a no brainer. The History Kid
We are talking about the RS-42 IIs right?
vnzbd
I had the RS-3s and the KSP-6 at the same time. The KSP's are larger than the 42's and I would expect their output to be greater. In my experience with a KLF frontend, the RS-3s were far better.
JiminSTL
Darn, Ibiza, just sold my white RS-3s last weekend! Personally, I think they have a very good sound, but: 1) what do I really know?, 2) it is my opinion only, and 3) is my ears, and no one else's. The History Kid
I may have to go the route of the 3s. It seems there is not much difference in the sound distribution despite the configuration. This is great news for me as I could use some extra cash.
