babadono
Hi All, Anybody have to use one of these in your setup? I just got a Harmony Ultimate One(Touch) universal remote and it seems to be even more unforgiving of the smoked glass doors on my cabinet than the multiple remotes are. Looks like Monoprice has a pretty inexpensive unit. Any thoughts/comments/advice?
agile1966
I have never used the Monoprice repeater. I had a very expensive one years ago and it looks very similar to the Monoprice repeater. I don't think you can go wrong with any Monoprice product. I have had very good luck with all of my Monoprice products. I liked the repeater better then the RF to IR blaster. Took a while to get used to the delay on the RF to IR conversion.
gadgtfreek
My boss needed one, and I grabbed a well rated one off Amazon for him. He has a harmony I set him up with and all his gear (like the avr and dvr) are in a cabinet. It works well.
USNRET
I use Xantech http://www.xantech.com/Infrared/Infrared/IRReadyKits/ Works great on its own controlling HT but I combine with Global Cache IR2CC to control Niles speaker switch going between HT and 2 channel amps to speakers. agile1966
I had a Xantech. USNRET jogged my memory. Worked very well.
babadono
So do the IR re-transmitters have to be affixed directly to the 'eye' of the controlled device or is close by(inside the cabinet) good enough? Or only experimentation will tell?
gadgtfreek
The one my boss got just sits in there and is an IR blaster.
agile1966
I had mine attached to the inside of the cabinet door. Worked for everything except for my cable box. Had to attach the repeater directly on the IR receiver. Some equipment can see about anything, while others were a little more touchy. I played around with placement before it was pretty consistent. I am sure the stregth of the repeater/blaster makes a big difference.
TasDom
Hi All, Anybody have to use one of these in your setup? I just got a Harmony Ultimate One(Touch) universal remote and it seems to be even more unforgiving of the smoked glass doors on my cabinet than the multiple remotes are. Looks like Monoprice has a pretty inexpensive unit. Any thoughts/comments/advice? Did you get the hub with the Ultimate remote? My Ultimate works flawlessly with 2 extenders plugged into the hub controlling my pre/pro and Oppo in a closed console. The hub is RF controlled so it can be out of line of sight as well. Nope, its IR only. It was a smoking deal on Newegg, only reason I got it.

I'm guessing you have this one? http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Ultimate-Customizable-915-000224/dp/B00IAKLM54/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429741113&sr=8-1&keywords=harmony+ultimate+one which states: Logitech Harmony Home Hub is NOT compatible with any Harmony remotes at this time. Compatibility will be available in early 2015
babadono
Yep, that's the one. I'm going to go with the Monoprice or similar IR repeater and get it working correctly. Then probably change out the smoked glass doors for full wood.
etc6849
I've had good luck with monoprice cables, except for the usb phone cables I bought which only lasted 6 months. But, I'd go with Xantech too! I am big into home automation, and the Xantech stuff is solid. I too use several Global Cache products and with Xantech hubs throughout my home. The Xantech hub has worked 100% of the time for me. If you have a ground loop issue (not going to happen if you glue blinkies on the front of everything), there's also optical isolation cables you can buy. If you have fluorescent lights, don't expect most IR receivers to work. They'll likely see too much noise. The IR receivers and kits that Xantech makes usually come with a fluorescent filter. You get what you pay for. I doubt the Monoprice stuff is going to work as well in direct sunlight, under CFL's or with a fluorescent backlit LCD TV, etc...
