YouTube (or other source) audio quality, search tools?

Lately on the forum there have been quite a few postings from YouTube of artists, great performances, etc, which brings me to my inquiry....I do love to watch "live" performances, and will occasionally purchase BluRays of artists I enjoy, so I can have them handy.  However, I have honestly not investigated how to find the videos that sport the "best" audio quality, so that I could "favorite" them, or use another tool to build a collection that is easily available.  I know I'm missing out on lots of great performances and music, and would like to hear some opinions of what others are doing in this regard......

Thanks, Jim

It is hit and miss on the picture and audio quality. Best quality is sometimes there in the audio, similar to a CD. A good  stand alone DAC can help out at times. Really, unless they are elsewhere(?) Youtube is the go to place for especially live performances. At least my experience. Best quality I have found, is always at the site itself, and not embedded on a webpage.

Know you are asking more but, all I got at the moment.

No matter the Audio quality that is uploaded to youtube, they broadcast out in an MP4 AAC 126kbps. Once the video is popular enough they will also broadcast 165kbps WebM file. Changing the video quality stream will not enhance the audio, the audio is the same for all video formats.

YouTube Audio Quality Bitrate Used For 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p

We’ve discovered another tip for this; you can force YouTube to play the best possible sound every time you switch to Full Screen mode, if you go to youtube.com/account_playback and check the “Always play HD on fullscreen (when available) option:

If you read down through the comments on that link somone corrects them and tells them that the audio is the same. Perhaps for their one example when they chose to watch the HD video his browser will play the 165kbps WebM file instead of the 126kbps mp4.

Seeing different formats over on youtube. More material  as time continues.  See what's new.

There are not up to near snuff material there to fill their servers. Good enough, near up to snuff

stuff is there fresh posted, everday. Sometimes. lol  Hidden gems I find, at times.

Find myself tweaking, of course for material that needs it, which is most times.

...for recent uploads only.  The "one size fits all" audio quality policy changed after late 2013.

So I went to youtube and played Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" (it was the first thing I saw). At the default 360p quality I copied the audio url stream to my clipboard:

https://r2---sn-ab5l6n7e.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?c=web&clen=3890565&cpn=2XrGDYP-2feRoruD&cver=as3&dur=244.924&expire=1437093886&fexp=901816%2C9406990%2C9408142%2C9408420%2C9408710%2C9416126&gir=yes&id=o-AOG7rUlk-o-mI9BTS1vaHpVuk3tt-dboKTTG--gHIhhs&initcwndbps=1642500&ip=50.177.140.227&ipbits=0&itag=140&keepalive=yes&key=yt5&lmt=1432153103333851&mime=audio%2Fmp4&mm=31&mn=sn-ab5l6n7e&ms=au&mt=1437072165&mv=m&pl=22&ratebypass=yes&requiressl=yes&signature=726A0304DD1679581726D8E51D6BE055A4AE16DF.9DC3A4A3D8B7219B6674F044DF4FA716D54644D2&source=youtube&sparams=clen%2Cdur%2Cgir%2Cid%2Cinitcwndbps%2Cip%2Cipbits%2Citag%2Ckeepalive%2Clmt%2Cmime%2Cmm%2Cmn%2Cms%2Cmv%2Cpl%2Crequiressl%2Csource%2Cupn%2Cexpire&sver=3&upn=lPa_V-ZT1qI

I then chose the 1080p quality from the pull down menu. A new video stream url opened up but the audio url remained the same:

Regardless of the bit rate youtube uses, there is also the fact that some upload vids use much better recording methods and mic's when making them. That is often what makes one sound so much better than another.
