The Dude
Ok I have had this Velodyne servo F1800-RII, https://velodyne.com/pdf/f1800/f1800rii_manual.pdf for some time now. Musically it works great, but for movies, when it hits low frequencies or specific frequencies I get loud pops. Now I could take this in and see if there is actually something wrong with the woofer and see about getting it replaced. Or just find a driver that will work for this box and amp. Or just either build a new sub all together(which I really don't have time for). If a driver replacement would be a good idea, any recommendations. If there are some subs that would fit the bill any recommendations for that or even a recommendation for a kit. I remember Scrappy's 18 builds, something like that might work. If I build a new one, I was thinking of one of those minidsp amps like this one. http://www.minidsp.com/products/plate-amplifiers/pwr-ice125 but I didn't know if it has enough power. Let me know what you guys think, by the way the room opens to the kitchen and is approx 12' by 22' including the kitchen and I am using Cornwalls in my system. billybob
Just saw this duder, and have seen replacement parts, Velodyne. Guessing that has something in the way of watts now. If you liked it before, you may continue by going original. Knew the older servo-controlled technology was getting some air time with their bass sub. Talk about the originals being scarce so. 18 inch, cannot say. So yes, if going with something else then, changing the brand as well as amp, may be. For sure this forum knows. Always liked the looks of a nice one. Have a good one. Edited July 27, 2015 by billybob
derrickdj1
The mini DSP amp will not work for an 18in. sub. Replacement parts would be easier. Check out Parts Express:http: //www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-18-ultimax-subwoofer-and-cabinet-bundle--300-7099?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla or DYI Sound Group:http: //www.diysoundgroup.com/sealed-subwoofer-flatpacks/4-sub-flat-pack.html and a driver SI HT18 and get an I Nuke 3000 DSP amp. These flat pack subs can be put together in an hour or two. This is not a lot more work than repalcing the driver for a better sub. Do you have a budget litmit?
Scrappydue
Can you build a box yourself? If so the stereo integrity driver is 100$ cheaper than the ultimax and you lose almost nothing in performance. If you only had space for a single than the ultimax would be a slightly better option. But even then a single in a big room in a sealed box I personally would probably want to go even higher up. Like a uxl or the hst-18 from stereo integrity. Let us know a budget your wanting to be at and we can go from there. I wouldn't mind helping with stuff. You aren't too far away. I think Omaha is 2.5 hours from me.
The Dude
The inuke, and Dayton package from PE would be around my budget. Now I might try and sell the Velodyne, however if unsuccessful couldn't I just use the Velodyne which is approx. 4.0 cu/ft box.
Scrappydue
If the new woofer would bolt right in possibly. If it's sealed then you could just power it externally?
derrickdj1
If the new woofer would bolt right in possibly. If it's sealed then you could just power it externally? That is almost about as much work as putting a flat pack together. Now the painting and speaker cup take a little time but, that is fairly easy. My apprehension was putting the cabinet together. Once you look into a sub, the task seems, well with in reach for most DIY'ers.
Scrappydue
not sure how you figure that? if the woofer bolts right in then only a way to get the input to it is needed? seems pretty easy. now i doubt that its going to but in theory its easier. The Dude
I could all ways start with a driver. I am thinking of the SI HT18, just for the price and keep this low cost. I will double check the cutout before ordering, if the Dayton turns out to be a closer fit I will go with that. I will not hack this very nice working box. I wouldn't have an issue re drilling mounting holes.
