kenratboy
I can't find any web sites... I have a 1989 Chevy Silverado 2500 and the steering is getting sloppy. On a TV show, they talked about upgrading the steering column to a aftermaket one that will tighten things up. The show didn't talk manufacturers. Any suggestion on where I can look? Not Klipsch related, but I COULD carry Klipschorns in the back ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come. jtkinney
In Phoenix, there are places that rebuild steering columns, you might check in Reno. Is the slop in the column or the steering box? I have been thinking about hooking my Quintets up in the front of my Suburban. ------------------ Jim Family Room: 1979 La Scalas (mains), SF-2 Center (pair), RS-3 Surrounds, RC-3 Rear Center, KSW-10 Subs (pair) Yamaha RX-V1 Reciever, Yamaha CDC-655 CD Player, Toshiba SD-1200 DVD, Toshiba TN50X81 50" HDTV Living Room: Yamaha RX-V590, 1978 Klipschorns Mainsc>s>
kenratboy
My bad - steering shaft. I saw a show and they said (then replaced) that most pickups have POS steering shafts. I can get a suped up replacement for $200, used on the TV show, and it will outlast the truck. The shaft feels loose, thats all I can see without getting too many tools involved. ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come. Mighty Favog
O.k., I've never owned a Chevy in my life but I did go to school for Auto Mechanics. Anyway, I would be sure that's the problem and not other steering parts such as tie rod ends, steering rack and/or pinion (those come in one unit anyway). Ball joints or even A-arm bushings (those would make a bit of a thud when they move). On the steering shaft there is probably a universal joint similar to whats on the trany drive shaft. Yes, those wear out too. I had a Mercury that I could sit in the driver's seat and lift the steering wheel about 1/4" while the rest of the column was perfectly still. Later found out the rag joint wasn't even there anymore Try this one.... http://shop.store.yahoo.com/super-store/19chevfulsiz1.html . ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 08-16-2002 at 07:59 PM
kenratboy
Thanks guys!!! I will definetly look into it! Sounds like a project that would be very rewarding, and easy!!! Everything else on the truck is NEW. I mean, like 5,000 miles new. No squeaks, dents, etc. So, it would be nice to fix it up a bit! ------------------ Receiver: Sony STR-DE675 CD player: Sony CDP-CX300 Turntable: Technics SL-J3 with Audio-Technica TR485U Speakers: JBL HLS-610 Subwoofer: JBL 4648A-8 Sub amp: Parts Express 180 watt Center/surrounds: Teac 3-way bookshelfs Yes, it sucks, but better to come. Malcolm
Borgeson makes a steering shaft for the full size GM trucks. About $200. They have a web site.

jtkinney
Are you sure you steering in the right direction on that track? You might also try loging on to the show's website to see if they list sponsors or promoted products. ------------------ Jim Family Room: 1979 La Scalas (mains), SF-2 Center (pair), RS-3 Surrounds, RC-3 Rear Center, KSW-10 Subs (pair) Yamaha RX-V1 Reciever, Yamaha CDC-655 CD Player, Toshiba SD-1200 DVD, Toshiba TN50X81 50" HDTV Living Room: Yamaha RX-V590, 1978 Klipschorns Mainsc>s>
