My friend recently bought a house with in ceiling speakers in the living room . The previous owner when they did the walk-through told him they were top-of-the-line speakers and he was using a separate center with them. Here are the specs :

5W - 125W

6.5-Inch Injection-Molded Graphite Woofer With Rubber Surround

1-Inch Aluminum Dome Pivoting Tweeter

Imp: 8 Ohm

Freq Resp: 32 Hz - 22 Khz

Technical Details

Brand Name: Proficient

Model Number: C640

Manufacturer Warranty Description: TEN YEARS

Product Details

Manufacturer: PROFICIENT

Manufacturer reference: C640

Product Dimensions: 12.2 x 11.5 x 10.8 inches

Shipping Weight: 11.8 pounds

ASIN: B000P0ZW44

He asked me to help him find a center to match it, I suggested he ditch those speakers all together but that is not an option for now.

Any suggestions for a center? He does not want to put another hole in the ceiling for a center either.

Not trying to sound rude....just going to be a bit blunt.

My neighbor has a 12K sq/ft house.  I think his ceilings are 15'.

They installed their HT in the living room, in the ceiling.  His wife pulled me in there one day saying I simply HAD to hear it....

By happenstance, they had the evening news on.

It was very disconcerting to be seeing the TV in front of me but the voices coming from above.  It was literally like God himself was telling us from above that it was going to rain tomorrow.....

My opinion, epic fail.

If someone decides that (buried in drywall) is the only way they can do it, I'd rather at least go with in WALL so you can bring them down to ear level and try to make it sound more normal.  The in ceiling for me, was terrible.

Again, just trying to be blunt, pardon any perceived rudeness.

I can't imagine any center will blend real well with in ceiling speakers. SOOO pick something that sounds descent. And he will prolly love it. Not everyone is as specific as a lot of us.

I think you're probably right Scrappy. I showed him how to hook things up to his Onkyo he bought and it sounded terrible I didn't have the heart to tell him because he wants to try and make it work. I wish you would just scrap the idea, no pun intended Scrappy :-)

I'm glad you're being blunt because I'm going to show him this so he knows it's not just me telling him to rethink it, I pictured the speakers at least being aimed toward the seating positions but they're just firing straight down .
