Rivernuggets
Thanks Ibiz, I forgot to say active noise cancelling. I'll edit the OP. I already have a Sennheiser HD280 for noise isolating.
Rivernuggets
Hah! thanks USN. She'll be travelling with earplugs and a book or two already.
The History Kid
Honestly total noise cancellation is about the only good thing I've heard about Bose. I don't have a lot of experience with the concept though, nor have I tried a pair of them to be able to tell you for sure. It's against my religion to own a product with that name on it. I'm sure there are other options though.
Rivernuggets
My brother has a Bose pair he showed me over Christmas. He flew from LA and used them on the flight. When I tried them out it was startling how well they worked. It blocked out everything, even relatives talking in the room sounded far away. He said that airplane rumble is gone when using them. I wanted to pick some brains here to see if anyone has tried other brands.
The History Kid
Seems that's still a favorite of many even on some other audio forums. Not sure if they're valued at their cost though.
Thaddeus Smith
bose quietcomfort series have always been the fan favorite for regular airline travelers. the only obvious problem is that they're bose. https://www.bose.com/products/headphones/over_ear_headphones/quietcomfort-25-acoustic-noise-cancelling-headphones-apple-devices.html
Rivernuggets
Not sure if they're valued at their cost though. Exactly. They seem overpriced. the only obvious problem is that they're bose. That's why I wanted other opinions. Not a big fan of the brand. That's the pair my brother has, QC25.
The History Kid
Seems that Bose and Beats dominate the market share for it. There are some Sony's out there that I know have good noise cancellation but sound terrible. There's some Senny's, but I don't know if they're quite worth the price: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PXC-450-Noise-Canceling-Headphones/dp/B000R2PC2M/ref=sr_1_25?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1452141529&sr=1-25&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A509318 These MAY be, but I'd call into question the quality of the noise cancellation: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-II-Collapsible-Noise-Canceling-Headphones/dp/B00375MWE2/ref=sr_1_29?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1452141529&sr=1-29&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A509318 Would advise staying away from Plantronics and SkullCandy from experience... Rivernuggets
Thanks for your suggestions. The Sennheiser PXC 250 II is looking good. My wife and I don't fly often so that price makes more sense for us.
The History Kid
Thanks for your suggestions. The Sennheiser PXC 250 II is looking good. My wife and I don't fly often so that price makes more sense for us. No problem. +1 on the price point. I have a few friends that speak highly of the Sennheiser's that they have. So while these may not be the "superior" headphone...if you're not using them often, they should be fairly decent for the buck.
