p-we Posted October 15, 2016 Share Posted October 15, 2016 Hello All, I am a custom speaker designer currently residing in New Zealand; although I am a California boy originally. I do custom design, repairs and performance mod's mostly for hi-fi applications. I am currently working on a set of Klipsch RF3's where one of the tweeters is damaged after being overdriven. I ordered SS brand replacements online but these simply do not seem compatible. After the switch there is only a very weak electrical response which suggests to me that the VC is not fully immersed into the magnetic gap. Comparing the SS with the undamaged original via visual inspection confirms the original VC is set deeper. I enlarged the mounting holes slightly to ensure the VC assemblies are flush to no avail. Additionally with both of the new SS's, the VC's are not hung symmetrically so I question the QC integrity.Normally when something like this happens I replace OEM driver dome tweeter units with higher quality alternatives but in this case the Klipsch horn is unique and also very important to my customer to keep. I'm trying to avoid doing something nutty like fixing the horn assemblies to some Seas units or something like that. Long story I need at least one but prefer a pair of factory K100 ti tweeter diaphragm replacements. p-we Posted October 15, 2016 Author Share Posted October 15, 2016 Thanks for the prompt advice. The tweeters are marked as "K 105 K". Which I was told is a K 100 v2 of sorts. Hey but I am very grateful for the advice as at this point I am sceptical to try any more loose VC assemblies and the K-135 is a complete neodymium driver package. It looks like the phase shielding is built into the driver in the K-135 where with these K-105's it is built into the horn. Is this the case? I will have to clean up the old phase shielding bits out of the throat of the horn then I guess. Again thanks for the tips!! I couldn't find this with googling.
