mnpumar
I am totally new to home theater, so I don't have any experience buying or setting these systems up. I would like some advice please. I have the following speakers on the way and I am lost trying to pick the right receiver: 1x R-12SW Subwoofer 2x R-26F Front Speakers 1x RP-440C Center Speaker I know I want 5.1, not 7.1 and I don't care about atmos. I'm trying to keep the price between 300-400, but lower is better if possible. However, I since I just purchased these high end speakers I don't want to ruin them with a cheap receiver. I appreciate the help. Thanks!

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for in the specs though. Would this one work? http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxv481/yamaha-rx-v481-5.1-ch-x-80-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html#!specifications Is this enough power? Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) 115 W (8 ohms, 0.9% THD) Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven) 80 W (8 ohms, 0.09% THD) Maximum Effective Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) (JEITA) 145 W (6 ohms, 10% THD)
pbphoto
I know you only need 5.1 but there are more 7.x options available with better feature sets in your price range. For example, this Yamaha is one generation old and about as future proof as you can get - for $350: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxa750bl/yamaha-rx-a750-7.2-ch-x-90-watts-networking-a/v-receiver-rx-v679/1.html This is the latest generation Yamaha for the same price with a little less power: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxa660bl/yamaha-rx-a660-7.2-ch-x-80-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html#!more I wouldn't worry about power or specs too much as long as you stay with one of the major brands in this price point. With an AVR, make sure it has all the features and connectivity options you need now and for the foreseeable future.

rebuy
IMHO---I THINK DENON SOUNDS BETTER THAN YAMAHA. I bought a X1200W from accesories4 less--referb and run my sound with no problem and the quality is fine.
tromprof
My Pioneer had an issue which I was able to resolve, however as a fill in while I figured it out I used a relatively inexpensive Yamaha AVR from Costco. I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and being from Costco it was super easy to give back. If I was looking in the sub $400-500 range that would be my choice. http://www.costco.com/Yamaha-TSR-7810-7.2-Channel-Network-Receiver.product.100308760.html or http://www.costco.com/Yamaha-TSR-5810-7.2-Channel-Network-AV-Receiver.product.100313478.html
