Mark Hardy
I got one of the little S5 stereo amp kits frmo AES in July when they had their 10% off everything sale. It was very easy to build (PCB's do have that going for them compared to point to point) and the PCB is of nice quality. Tubes were brandless: 2 from Japan, 2 Korean. The Japanese ones light up like light bulbs at turn-on. Sound quality is perfectly decent: a bit strident compared to my Paramours, but not at all unpleasant (especially for $139). There's a bit of hum/noise (haven't measured it yet) but not objectionable. I'd call this a fun toy. At the moment, I have been using them with a truly ugly (but very good sounding) pair of AR3a's I found at the town "transfer station" (dump). These aren't quite efficient enough for 2A3 SET's, but the "8-watt" S5 amp does a rather nice job with them. There are worse things you could do with $139. ------------------ all the best, mrh
JasN00b
would it be worth using as a primary amp with some herseys? ------------------ --------------------- I. Love. MUSIC!
tpg
For the price, I'd have to say yes... I was looking into getting two of them for my KG's... ------------------ SoundWise / ProMedia Tech Support / 1-888-554-5665s>

JCturboT
Mark Hardy, Where have you been? I thought Chris Robinson & myself were the last Central Mass posters on this site. Jeff
