Mike said a mouthful. This is the correct way to think about tubes. What Maynard said is also right on spot. The difference between new vs NOS should be subtle all things considered. Price can vary more dramatically and is related to supply and demand. I am in the camp with others that spending a fortune does not equate to better SQ. Some people like to think of how much that spent and get some sense of quality or perceived better SQ. Hal Posted April 21, 2017 Share Posted April 21, 2017 I have no doubt about the subtle differences in sound quality of various tubes both old and new production, but the thing that is not so subtle, as others have mentioned, is the ruggedness and longevity of older tubes, especially those that are driven hard, such as in guitar & professional amps. jmho, ymmv.
