Mighty Favog
HDBR - here's a closeup of the front edge of the HF horn. There are nail heads visible for the center verticle baffle. But the front edge has, what looks like, filled in holes for some sort. Maybe a way to clamp it while it's drying/during. Those lines are brush strokes from being painted.

Most likely it was made out of something OTHER THAN Masonite...in those days marine-grade fir plywood was popular, but Luan (so-called "Philippine Mahogany") plywood was starting to come in during the early post-WWII timeframe and was more stable than the marine-grade fir plywood in thin sheets....so it could actually have been either of them. I just don't see anyone opting for Masonite over plywood when given the choice. Masonite doesn't hold glue worth a damn, and the more you sand it the fuzzier it gets...plus painting it just makes it want to turn into "dog-crap and tater peelings" (as my father would say) while the paint is still wet...remember, most people still used brush-on finishes and paint back in those days. The family is keeping it as it's an heirloom for them. Jim, I'm sure, is documenting it's existance and further look into establishing the connection of the builder and PWK by way of the letter.
