RF-7 III roughly 3" from front wall?

Recommended Posts

Too close? If I am not mistaken, the ports are only used for the low frequencies. If I crossover the RF-7 IIIs at 80 Hz will there be any issue if they are only about 3" from the front wall?

General rule of thumb is diameter of the port is minimum distance but youre correct crossing over higher lessens the need and same for not playing at high volumes.  If port is say 4 inches 3 should be fine....if its 6 or 7 i would move it out a bit so sound is not colored

There's still going to be a ton of air coming from the ports even if you cross them at 80Hz.  I've always heard like Robo said, diameter of port(s) added together is recommended distance.  The RF-7 IIIs have kind of rectangular rear ports, don't they?  I'm not sure exactly you'd calculate that, then, unless you take the height and width and average them.

It sounds a little close to me but just try it and see if you like it.  I always ran my stuff about 8" from the wall.  If you're really spanking them, 3" would probably mess with some air flow.
