You will definitely lose some bottom end but if you tune the box at fs of the driver or just a little below, using a slot port as large as you can in the confines of the box, it may not be too bad.  Key is getting the port area as large as you can (deeper slot).  This is the old day method vs using the full T/S parms.

Right now, I'm using a 4" ID x 4 3/8" L port. It gets me down to 60Hz. Since I have a good sub, I was willing to give up LF extension for power handling. I was wondering how much more bass I would lose if I cut the box size in half. I suppose I could break down and buy some modeling software, but that seems kind of excessive for this one off project.
