Just nabbad an H/K AVR 8000 on ebay from a very respectable seller, should be here in a week or so.

I just got the New Home Theater magazine, and the power rateing on this thing is way above the posted specs...

My AVR 7000 has found a good new home, I hate to see it go, but not as much as I love to see the new one coming in.

m00n,

I do think it will make a small difference. When I got January's HT magazine, I read the review, and they say for performance it is right there with the top Denon and Pioneer. They say it's mellow and smooth, but still full bodied and dynamic when asked to be.

It is only costing me about $480 U.S. to do the upgrade.. How could I resist?

An AVR 8000 is on the way for me also. I am replacing my Marantz SR 7000 with the HK AVR 8000.

Let us know when you hook it up.

I hope to use the 7.1 with my old Harmon Kardon 665 amp, my belles, heresys, chorus II's and Forte's.

Now I only need to get a sub to compliment the Belles.

I had to run a search on the e-bay a/v receivers for just "8000". You will get the AVR 8000 among other things. You will see that the items sold by HK are labeled AVR 8000Z. The Z means a refurb unit.

I just happened to luck into mine for $1095.

I have seen them going for a little more.

I bought one last month from One Call in Washington. They were having a special on them, all new, for $1187 delivered. I have not received it yet.

There is a lot of talk on the forums below about this receiver, both pro and con. Some are really interesting concerning bass management, and work arounds. Biggest problem is with a center channel buzz, and it seems to be prevelant in a lot of the One Call units that were made in January 2002. I am trying to make sure I do not get one of those.

Home Theater Forum has a section for special deals/purchases like the one above. You can search it and see if there is something interesting. They often only last a day or 2, but sometimes much longer.

Mostly interesting reading for this receiver.
