jwadd21
I have two 25-31cs powered by the original fidek amp from svs. When I play bass pretty loud one of them makes a pop noise every once and a while. I look at how hard its working and i could possibly understand that maybe it just cant handle that much bass, but the other one never pops, ever. What could the problem be? Keep in mind this popping occurs at fairly high bass levels with pretty low bass. Twice ive noticed it. a few times when playing lord of the rings loudly and a few times when playing missy elliot- work it which has bass so low i cant even hear it. The sub looks like its moving pretty hard, perhaps its just the characteristics of the material and not the sub, dunno. - Jason
prodj101
maybe bottoming out? if the woofer movees past it's excrusion rating, you get a crunching sound.
lynnm
I suspect that you are hearing port noise. The fact that one sub makes the noise but not the other is likely due to placement issues. Try moving the PF (Port Farter) a little farther away any adjacent wall or corner.

Deang
When a sub "bottoms out" -- what you will hear is metal hitting metal. The sound is unmistakable. At any rate, you might want to back down on the volume just a little. How big is your room?
jwadd21
So it's not "bottoming out" but rather "making port noise"? That's fine but the noise is still there at certain times. I have a big room and the subs are placed pretty close to the wall. I still do not see how moving them away would help port noise at all. Orange Peel
I would bet it's bottoming out. I bottomed out my 20-39 PC+ 3 days after I had it and killed the driver. I would back the gain down a little on that one sub and see if it goes away. LOTR's is VERY hot, so the bass is much louder than any other movie or calibration disk you used to setup the Subs. You don't want to keep bottoming out the sub, eventually it will die and that's not the thing we want right?
jwadd21
Yea well i guess i just thought the svs could handle it. maybe i was getting too cocky.
