Ozanhan
Hi friends, Yamaha has announced new 1000 Watt! subwoofer named YST-SW1500. IT has real 1' wooden cabinet and built-in 1000 Watt! amplifier, 12' driver. Amazing! Isin't it?
Dustin B
Watts are meaningless without context (context being enclosure allignment, driver senstivity and the room). So I don't know if it's impressive or not. Small cabinet with low sensitivity 12" driver and a 1000W will be anything but impressive. TheEAR
Just recycled Bob Carver ideas.I guarantee you the Sunfire Signature outperforms this copycat. LOL
Stephen328
Yamaha subs always sounded boomy to me. Not sure about this one. The ears is probably right though.
InnovaZero
Bah, A Sunfire 18inch with it's own 2,800watt Amp built in a nice solid wooden cab. would destroy it no problem. Thing hit's cleanly down to around 14hz.
prodj101
the yamaha isn't in any of the classes mentioned. it's going to be the upper low end type of sub that you'll see at best buy and CC. And yes, I aggree, the current yamaha subs suck. they are boomy and the enclosures are as sturdy as a 1,000 year old bridge.
Dustin B
For one thing Sunfire doesn't make an 18" sub, 12" is the biggest they make as far as I'm aware. For another, their best 12" sub will in no way do 14hz at a decent level cleanly.
InnovaZero
Maybe I was wrong, I but I swore they had one bigger then a 12. I saw it in SoundVision magazine.

The significance of the design is that a physically tiny subwoofer can produce absolutely earth-shaking, sub-sonic bass at high volumes without loss of coherence or tightness. With the Sunfire True Subwoofer, a music and film enthusiast can have real bass in a room that could never support a large, bulky, old-school subwoofer. The Sunfire True Subwoofer Signature is our flagship model. At 13 inches cubed, the Signature woofer produces mind boggling bass from a box which is a fraction of the size of its competitors. Fish
I would be very suspect of a yamaha sub.I once, only once,as a teenager, had a pair of yamaha's best speakers and was not impressed.I would go for tried and true quality, the ones mentioned here most often. TheEAR
Dustin, Its sad Bob Carver does not want to make a Sunfire cube using an 18" woofer with two PR's.No doubt this monster would hit 14Hz with power. As a 13" cube, using a 12" woofer and PR hits solid 20Hz.And at 30Hz it shakes your inside out. In any case the Signature is the most powerful microsub,no contest.Even from Velodyne The others...ha just ME TOO pretenders with hype and no proven performance.I want to see any 13" and under, cube best the output of the SIg at 30Hz,even 20.
