JRuss
I currently have an old Technics tube amp model # sa-5270. it has 165 watts and i was told that it was running 35 watts to my speakers. it sounds really nice like this but i want a newer amp that i can run more things off. in the future i plan to run my dvd and tv on it and possibly my computer. what type of newer amp can do this? and where can i get one for a decent price? Chris Robinson
Jruss, this is a really big question. IMHO, cruise on over to the 2-channel forum, select posts for the last 180 days, and start reading. In an hour you'll probably pick up a lot. Tubes Vintage integrated if you want to save $$$ ... Colin
what inputs does it have? what tubes? how old? when was the last time anything was fixed on it? What speakers do you have?
HDBRbuilder
Technics never made any tube amps...the "SA" series are S/S receivers...and even the diminutive little H/K 430 will be one helluva lot better sounding power source for LaScalas than any of those high-powered Technics receivers would be. greg928gts
Try to find an old McIntosh Solid State like a 50 or 100 watt per channel stereo amp for your music listening and set up a completely different system for TV/surround etc... IMO the two don't mix well. I have been much more satisfied with my 2 channel music listening system since I ditched the surround out of it. There's a reason why the Klipsch Heritage and the McIntosh amplifiers were sold together by so many dealers 20 years ago. They work well together and Mc has a great reputation. Cut-Throat
My Suggestion - go for the SET - Monoblock route. Flea power 2-9 watts per channel. You can build a pair of Billie Monoblocks 300b tube design for about a grand. They will make your speakers sing!
