For risers on your first pair, you can experiment by using a short wooden dowel ( like a piece of broom handle, or larger diameter closet clothes rod) across/under the front edge. I used a 12-14 inch piece of 2×4 under mine to give some tilt.

I have stain the plywood and varnish it...

The plywood does not absorb the stains as regularly...but still so far I'm happy with the result.  Next steps... the base...
