seagiant
Hi, Found a decent pair of totally stock Black KG-4's at a good price. Sound very good to me. So, whats next? What would you more experienced Klipsch Fans do, to get them, like you would want??? Edited March 7 by seagiant Add pic
DirtyErnie
Could probably stand to replace the electrolytic caps in the crossovers. Otherwise, run 'em. Some like the titanium tweeter diaphragms, others don't. follow your ears.
seagiant
Hi, Thanks, have the Ti Tweeters coming in and I'm going to Dynamat the Horns (not cabinets)... Probably will also recap with Crites Kit (silver) and sand restain finish cabinets. Picked these up for $135 so have a little $$$ left over for a refurb!
seagiant
Hi, Well, Crites got some of my business, I guess... Put in the Ti Tweeters, Dynamatted the Horns and then... Bought the "Silver" Option Caps and put those in. Cabinets will be next along with an inside brace to help strengthen the sides. Speakers sounding very nice in my Wokshop with a Sansui AU-317!
MikeM
The KG-4s were my very first speaker system. I got them in the late 80’s. Loved them and would be happy to own them again. I recall putting them on stands to get them off the floor a foot or so and that really made them sound better.
Iteachstem
Sand them down and stain or leave natural and just seal them. Wash the speaker grills... take them to the shower and I use a little laundry detergent and a gentle brush... you'll be amazed at the amount of dirt that comes out! I've refurbished several of these with great results.
Iteachstem
You can check out what I did to this set of KG4's with internal bracing and sanding/staining.

Hi, Well, the highs seemed clearer and the mids were more open. Over all an improvement and now have done everything possible to help them sound as good as possible. Worth the money and effort to me. Cleaned the wood and stained with black leather dye, did not want more paint on to hide the wood grain. Installed a grill on the back to protect the passive. Later rubbed in some Howard'sFeed and Wax, and was done.

Marvel
I like the idea of putting grills over the passives.
Mikekid
We were lucky when our kids were little. Very easily understood don't touch! Their little friends were always great about these things too. They are now 39 and 40...time is getting away from us! 61 in another month. geezzzz... Sure understand the grills. Seen them installed on a lot of passives over the years.
seagiant
Hi, Thanks, went in today, and wiped on some 303 Protectant on the rubber surrounds. Suppose to keep or help the rubber stay supple and was a tip from a Stereo Electronic Tech. In a few months will take a soft cloth and wipe everything down and should look even better. It is good when things all come together!
