Deang
Pretty cool design. After all the painting I've done, I'm wondering if it might not be easier just to vinyl veneer those shelves.
Weiming
The TNT FleXy rack is really good. I built my own version 4 yrs back and it is used to support my 29" TV, VCR, DVD player and Yammie receiver currently. I used MDF painted Hammerite black and 0.7" threaded rods. T2K
Finished the flexi-rack yesterday. Ordered all the hardware from www.mcmaster.com in Atlanta. Bought the 36" threaded rod, nuts, flatwashers, rubber cushioning washers, acorn nuts, coupling nuts, and hooded twin wheel casters for a total of $55. Shipping was $12. Bought 3/4"x16"x48" MDF at HD for ~$12. Had the HD guy cut the MDF into 6- 22" wide shelves. The wife and I spent about 30 minutes of "quality time" assembling the rack. She seemed to enjoy handling my rods and nuts. After adjusting and leveling the 5 shelves, I loaded up the Scott amps, tuner, cheap CD player, and spare TT. The rack is quite serviceable, and sturdy. As deang mentioned earlier, I plan to use the vinyl from Parts Express and paint the hardware. Although I will probably disassemble the rack and cut the threaded rod for use with 4 shelves only, the 5 shelver is a nice alternative to a storebought rack. The coupling nuts would also allow use of inexpensive spikes if those are desireable. When finished I believe the rack will actually look nice too!
