Need Quick Help

I'm 97.5% sure that the larger 1/4" spade is going to be your positive.

If your really in doubt, just hook it up either way and listen to it, then swap the wires and listen again.

The right way will offer a cleaner, more articulate sound.

The latter will sound muted, even if only a slight bit.

John

LOL!

Whoops.

You see....that's why I left that 2.5% of uncertainty.

I stand corrected on the larger spade issue.

If it's not labeled on the driver, I always hook it up for a listen to make sure.

Although, That's just me

Love playing with this stuff.

Can't get enough of it.

Jim -saw the pics of your Corals.

Good looking boxes, man.

I'll bet they sound goood.

I have a set of them around here somewhere.

They ain't nothing like yours. though.

Scooterdog,

Hoping you have not made any fatal errors, ......

You can test a cone loudspeaker with a 1.5V battery to see which terminal is +. The cone moves forward when the + of the battery is connected to the + terminal of the driver.

Bad midrange driver on one of the ML1Cs.

Sucks too, because I just got a new pair of Vifa tweeters for them.

Hand matched by Frank Gow, himself.9.gif

Yeah Jim....your not fooling anybody here. LOL

Your just like me.

Gotta get your hands on every peice of equipment at least once before you die.

How else we gonna know what's out there? Right?

Funny thing is.....the Klipsch always make the cut.3.gif

No question in my mind as to why.

They are what they are.

Often imitated...never duplicated.

I need some Khorns buddy.

LOL

Or at least some Scalas.

Then maybe I would part with a few sets of these smaller Klipsch.

NOT.

Regards,

John.

John, I was hoping the same thing.

Could have sworn the drivers on my KG4.5s and RF7s were oriented with the larger spade being the pos.

Thus, the not quite 100% sure rating.

I forgot about mentioning the battery test.

Never use that method myself for fear of some type of catastrophy.

I couldn't bear losing any drivers.

They're like family too me. :)

Most of the loudspeakers I have incorporate a treated cloth surround on the suspension.

Very hard to find exact replacement.

So I just play it as safe as possible.

Regards,

John

I tried to quote John Albright but this BB software didn't wanna play so.....

John commented about testing the phase of a pair of woofers using a 1.5 volt battery. Some time ago I made the same suggestion to another member about using a battery to test phasing but neglected to specify that one should use a 1.5 volt AA or AAA cell.

I would dearly love to properly credit the smarta$$ who wrote back complaining that he had followed my advice with catastrophic results but I was unable to locate the thread in question. What follows then is a recreation and not a quotation - What follows is accurate in substance and spirit but most certainly is not word for word:

Thanks for the tip IDIOT ! I hooked up a spare car battery to one of my KLF's and discovered that the woofers were in fact out of phase !

The lower woofer landed in the middle of my swimming pool and the upper woofer buried itself into the back of my sofa ! Fortunately my cat Bill was taking a dump and wasn't in his usual place when the connection was made. Try and be a little more specific when dishing out advice A$$hole !

lynnm,

I saw your post, and about fell out of my seat with laughter! I know it wasn't meant to be funny-but the way you described it sounded like a skit from a Chevy Chase movie.............I apologise to who ever got hurt, but lynnm you have a gift for the written word........
