Glimmertwin
i am definitely holding off that decision i was about to make in purchasing an amp! i came across some research while perusing some other forums ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- in particular, according to some interesting research concerning the ability to discern between amplifiers in blind tests ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- apparently it is pretty much guesswork when listening to solid state (i.e. your ears cannot tell the difference between a $500 amp and a $5,000 amp)... but your ears can tell the difference between tube amplifiers .... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- please refer to the test data in this link: http://www.pcavtech.com/abx/abx_data.htm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ... and also refer to the following threads: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=292828 http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/viewtopic.php?t=4334&highlight=hear -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Deang
When I'm upstairs and hear my wife and daughter downstairs yelling at each other -- I can't tell them apart, they sound the same.
mobile homeless
All you need now is a blindfold so you can decide what amp you want... For an extra guffaw, some ear plugs might be an amusing one for the HIFI HUT drones. I always wanted to walk in with the latest copy of Stereophile's Recommended Components and just point to an amp in Class A saying, "I wants that one." kh
Audio Flynn
I wants this one and do you take cash? It would be funny.
Geo1
I would never be so presumptuous as to tell any individual what he, or she, could, or couldn't, hear. There has never been, however, a study published where any individual could denonstrate the ability to differentiate between solid state amps, to a statistical certainty, beyond chance, when using double-blind conditions. There are differing opinions as to whether double-blind testing is a valid methodology when testing amplifiers, however, people can demonstrate the ability to differentiate the difference between tubes and solid state.
