I've heard time and time again that i was putting to much

power in my la scalas.I've had them for years,I used them

at block parties, clubs and halls,in a bi-amp system.750 watts for the lows and 200 for highs and i've had no problems. My question is"Can i change the 15 inch 100 watt woofer to a 800 cont. 1600 program 3200 peak woofer made by peavey?

I don't want to blow the k-33.

And don't want to crack the la scalas cabinets.

Matt,

Yes you can change the k33e to a peavey black widow 4 ohm driver. They make a black widow designed for a horn loaded cabnet. they have it list on the peavey site.

I have some pro lascalas with the black widow drivers the work great. Youir cabnets will have no problem with high watt speakers.

I use a crown psa2 to drive my blackwidow/lascala cabs at 800 watts .

They do make nice small pa cabnets.

The Black Widow 1504 has less bass than the K33E and a lot less maximum ouput.

Their Low Rider series have x-max specs more like the K33E.

What actual woofer model number are you considering?

Download the T/S parameters and post the Fs, Qts, and Vas please.

Thanks for the help.Peavey only makes one 15 inch low rider. The item number is 004937710.I think they also make

a 15 inch pro rider that is also 800 cont.1600 program

3200 peak.

If this is the case ,what will be the rigth replacement?

And why should i use a 4 ohm woofer as the 1504 ?

I have 3 woofers on each chanel. That drops my amp to 2.6

ohms.I only use 3 woofers on each side for large gigs.

One of the reasons for changing the woofers is so i can

bring one set of speakers.which i chose the la scalas.

they sound great.

Another viable alternative is the JBL 2226H.

Placing the woofer in the bass horn raises it's effective impedance from 4 to 6 ohms. If you used an 8 ohm nominal/6 ohm typical impedance woofer it would go up to 9-ish ohms actual and you'd have to change the crossover to account for the change.

Thank guys for your help;

I belivie the k-43e is only 200 watts cont,400 program and

800 watts peak.

The J.B.L woofers are good,But I've fried a couple in the past.

The peavey woofers are field replaceable, which would save

me money if i do blow them.

I only want to travel with two speakers for small to mid

size gigs and the amp i use for the lows is 500 watts per

chanel @8 ohns.

I"m bypassing the x-over for the woofers in the la scalas

hooking them straight to the woofers since I'm using a

active x-over

But I do use the passive x-over in the la scala for the

horn and tweeters and they sound great.

The Klipsch K43E is made by Eminence. If it was made in the last couple of years the power handling is much higher than older versions. It is somewhere between a Kappa Pro15 (500W) and a Kappa Pro15LF (600W) as far as power handling.

A Peavey CS-1000X is: 500 Watts RMS per channel @ 4 Ohms, 300 Watts RMS per channel @ 8 Ohms

A CS-200X is: Rated Output Power: 8 Ohms: 0.07% THD: 75 Watts RMS

I would vent the LaScala and use either a JBL 2226G or a Klipsch K43E. The JBL requires a front spacer to have cone clearance, the K43E comes with a built in spacer.

125 per side is nothing when you're in a large club or outside.I know the la scalas are very good speakers. But I think it needs more low end.

Also it's very hard on ones back to be lugging around six

p.a cabinets. With the la scala if I upgrade the woofer I'll be able to carry less.1.gif
