lovedrummin
I'm looking into purchasing either a Panasonic PT47WX53 or PT53WX53, hopefully in the next couple of months. The room it will be in is 12'X12'. Has anyone had any experience with either of these models. Any pros and cons regarding these models.I was also wondering if the the base and the screen are all one piece or two separate pieces to be attached. I have a tight corner to navigate to get the RPTV in the room. Thanks
kenratboy
12' X 12'? I think the 47" is fine. Whats the proce difference? Think of all the DVD's you could buy with the price difference.
space_cowboy
I agree the 47" would probably be enough for that room size. I sometimes wish I had gone to a next bigger size, but only turn mine on Sat. and Sun. so not a big deal really. Without looking at those models, have never seen a RPTV that was in two pieces, wouldn't make sense with the mirrors and lenses. Ken had a good point, you could probably get some goodies with the price difference.
lovedrummin
Thanks for the input guys. The price difference is $200. I could buy the Pioneer DV-563AS DVD player for that and then I could play SACDs as well as DVD-Audio discs - hmmmm. Lew's media center is looking and sounding better. Will my RC-3 center channel sit on top of it OK?
easylistener
If all you are going to be watching is HD or DVD's get the bigger one. The good picture quility lets you go bigger. Being able to split them in half is HUGE. It makes moving them so much easyer. I don't now if it has a shelf for the speaker
merlin3791
I own a Panasonic 47wx49, basically the same as the 47wx53 just doesnt have the screen protector on it, which videophiles dont like because of the glare it can cause. If you dont have kids I'd try to find a 47wx49 if I were you. You just dont want to have people touching your screen thats all. Anyhow the TV is one piece, and I think the 47" is plenty for a 12x12 room, mine is in a 13x14 and I wouldnt want anything bigger in there. You'll want to leave some room for the home theater equipment and speakers not to mention a place to sit! lol Plus youll get a better picture off standard viewing material with a little distance between you and the screen. I have to say I love my set, Ofcourse I upgrade from a 25" bottom of the line set, so its been a huge difference for me. One piece of advice about RPTV's dont expect the picture to be perfect out of the box your going to have to spend some time setting it up, doing the convergence and tweaking the picture. Here's a good site to get info and tweaks about panasonic RPTV's http://panny.tv/
lovedrummin
I plan to use it for mostly DVD viewing. Not much HD programming available in this area yet via cable. Plus I don't watch that much regular TV programming except the news, NYPD Blue and Ravens games. My old 32" Panny is good enough for watching the news. merlin3791
im not sure what the RC-3 dimensions are but my SC-1 sits on it just fine
dougdrake
Can you control the light in the room? IOW, is it a fully enclosed room with a door and all? If so, how about a front projector? Don't think that your room is too small for one. I'm putting one in my 10x11 room.
lovedrummin
My RC-3 is about 23"X8"X8". Hopefully that will sit on top of the Panny alright. I'm still a little confused as to whether or not these two Pannys are two piece units or not. Do you have any info on this Easylistener? As far as width, the 53 cabinet is only about 2 inches wider than the 47, so I'd basically have about the same amount of room along the wall for my A/V gear, main speakers, sub etc. I'm still not sure about the viewing distance between the two. It's hard to tell at the local Circuit City or BestBuy. They're not side by side which would be better for comparing them.
merlin3791
The panasonics are One Piece RPTV's you cant separate it into 2 pieces!
prodj101
I would get the 53 just because I know if I were in your position and got the 47 I would regret it later on down the road.
T2K
The biggest mistakes people make are buying cheap RP's, and buying too large a screen for their room. Keith
lovedrummin
merlin3791, Thanks for the definitive answer on the Pannys being one piece. Just what I was seeking. Thanks.
chuckears
I sit 13 feet away from my 55" Mits, and I'm constantly asking myself, "Why, oh why did I not get the 65"?" Definitely go with the 53"...
easylistener
I sit 14 feet away and I have a 57" hitachi and I would like to go bigger also. I just don't have the room for it. Just watching dvd's the pq will be good enough to go as big as you can buy.
