KAiN5 (banned )
In order to play DVD-Audio discs, do I have to use analoge connections or can I just use the digital coaxial connection that I use for DVD movies?
cjgeraci
Usually, the connections are five analog connections for the speakers and one analog connection for the subwoofer(s). -------------- Downstairs Samsung TXN3245FP Harmon Kardon AVR 525 Denon DVD-2900 Mains: Klipsch RF3II Center: Klipsch RC3II Surrounds: Klipsch RS35 Left Rear: Klipsch KLF-C7 Right Rear: Klipsch RC35 SVS 20-39PCi SVS PB2-ISD Upstairs Yamaha RX-V1300 Mains, Center: Onkyo SKS-HT500 Surrounds: Axiom QS-8 HSU VTF-
KAiN5 (banned )
Yeah, but will it be possible to use a single digital coaxial connection for DVD-Audio?
mbajner
probably not. I know Dennon has a one wire connection for this but you have to use their top end av receivers and dvd players. also, the issue is bass management. very few have bass management for these analog inputs and very few DVD players have this feature. outlaw make a unit that does the bass management part. but now, more cables to buy and connect. DrPyro
Kain- You can't use the standard digital coax from DVD-A disk, to output the high-resolution audio encoded on the disk. The reason is that the recording industry doen't want high res. digital info ouputed without encryption. So, you are stuck with the Analog connections! I'm not sure about DVD-A, but high resolution SACD can be outputed via FireWire (IEEE-1394) but only a few systems have the proper connectors and DACs for SACD. -Dave
jdm56
I think all you'll get from DVD-A discs via the coaxial or optical digital audio output is Dolby Digital and/or DTS. In other words, compressed audio. Nyet!
toddvj
Exactly right, you can get the Dolby Digital or dts track from the Disc, but not the High-Resolution Audio track(s). So, you'll still have true surround sound, but it won't sound as good as if you use the analog connections. Denon does have a one-cable connection, but only on their top of the line Receiver/DVD Player combo. Pioneer has A couple of receivers and one DVD player that use firewire for DVD-A and SACD. I'm sure that there will be more to come.
