Corwall II's

Ahoy!

I was given a pair of Cornwall II's about a year ago. They look to have been modded already, and not very well. The wires coming out of the back looked to be about 10 AWG (or even larger), and didn't fit well into any amp output I've had. Recently I got around to opening them up, and replaced the power-in wires and the Xover-to-woofer wires with 14AWG (the 10AWG wires were spliced to some much smaller wires internally, so they didn't do much good anyhow). They sound much nicer.

While the housings were open, I noticed that the Xovers didn't match. one looks professional, and probably original, while the other channel has a... less than savory appearance (and poorer punch and quality). I'm wondering if it's possible to find schematic/specs for the original crossover.

Also, one of the speakers is missing the panel that tells me it is a Klipsch (so I am just running wires through a large hole right now). Can these be replaced? Or will I just have to jury rig it?

Finally, I'm wondering if any one has a picture of the front of a Cornwall II without the cover, as I'm pretty sure my woofers have been replaced by a previous owner.

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

here are some pictures. I suppose that they might not really be Cornwall II's. I realize the woofers are most certainly not original. at any rate the case with the home made xover (or poorer looking one if they are fakes) sound poorer, and I am interested in any sort of spec. info. I can get on Cornwall II's.

I see why they were given to you. Those are beat to hell. Not hopeless though. If you refinish these and put original parts in, they should be fine.

Woofers are still available from klipsch. You should also be able to solder some connections in the back. Finding original x-overs will probably be an ebay task. I don't think they're still available.

Good luck. You have a real project on your hands. It'll be worth it in the end though. They're great speakers.

Yep they are Cornwall II's alright - just barely, Wow like Gary said they are pretty beat up but not hopeless. The woofers are obviously not original, the horn lenses look original, with some luck the drivers on the horn lenses are original. It looks like the plastic piece on the back only houses the banana plug connectors that are now missing. Easy to replace those though. The crossover must be housed in the enclosure somewhere, you will have to remove the woofer to locate it if it is still intact. The cabinets need some serious work, you can replace the woofers with originals from Klipsch parts. Putting the banana plug input cups back together and in should be easy, go to parts express and pick up some banana plug inputs that will mount to the plastic cup and then re-install it in the speaker. With some parts and some elbow grease you could have a decent set of speakers. Hey they were free anyway, so a little investment could go a long way. Did you get the grills with them?

He is correct. I just called Klipsch and verified the Cornwall II crossover is listed a obsolete. You could check eBay to buy some or you could build some yourself.

Thanks for the link Woodog. Thanks for your advice everyone else. After checking that site, I realize that who ever redid one Xover (can figure out why they did just one) must have made it to fit the specs of the Pyle, and did a damn good job of it. The woofers that are currently in there sound quite nice, and if they get replaced, it will probably be the last thing I do to them.

I think my task list on them is to: get banana plug connectors and plastic holder(s) for said pieces; obtain cloth covers; boiled linseed oil on the wood work(I think I read this is what I should use); make a new Xover (which one depends on what woofers I want end up with)

Thanks again for all the help.
