I don't want them hearing the filth that is put out these days. And as far as I know, there is no "v-chip" for radio. Allen, Yeah, whatever you say. Lewdness and profanity are prohibited on the public airwaves. The "Community Standard" that you refer to is from a decision of the Supreme Court that applied to the showing of pornographic material in a place of business for profit. Redeeming Social Value also is a term from a Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court has not, to my knowledge, ever ruled that the "Community Standard" thesis be applied to the public airwaves. Mr Stern and others of his ilk have a long history of being fined by the FCC for indecency. It was a cost of doing business. It was Clear Channel's corporate decision to stop airing his program not the FCC. If anything or anyone shuts off Mr. Stern's cash cow it will be himself and his "shock jock" programing. He must have known that his ride could/would not last forever. If he didn't he has overstated his selfproclaimed omniverance and superiority. Personally, I don't have an axe to grind in this battle. I have never heard Mr. Stern's program and have no wish to do so. His show is not broadcast in the Providence market on any station I normally listen to. He may be on one of those rap or New Wave FM stations I don't know but, I have never seen any publicity about the show locally. I'm sure that he is not on the Jazz station that you listen to and if he were would you take your precious time to listen to the likes of Mr. Stern? And now soon after he spent the last few weeks raking the Bush administration over the coals POOF! here comes Clear Channel who is one of Bush's biggest supporters and donors and pulls him off the air in six markets. What was the big infraction? A CALLER dropped an "N" bomb when talking about African-Americans and Stern immediately hung up on him. THAT'S the reason Clear Channel gave! Viacom will drop Stern in the next few weeks due to pressure from this American Taliban. And Stern will be PAID IN FULL FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS CONTRACT! I have listened to Howard Stern from time to time over the past 15 years or so and his show is FAR from lewd. It's HILARIOUS, a good old fashioned American side-show on the radio. I'm not a huge fan, but the show IS funny and is NOT lewd! If you haven't heard the show you have NO right to comment on the content! If you don't have children, then you may not understand where parents would have an issue. On the other hand if you do have children, and you would not mind them listening to his show that's fine, to each his own. Myself, I know I don't need or want my children listening to his filth. As an adult, I personally don't have that big of an issue with is humor. But no mater how you slice and dice it, his show is not acceptable for all audiences and unfortunitly, all audiences have free and easy access to it. Oh and yes I have heard his show. It's syndicated here where I live. I've listened to it many Many MANY times. I'm not sure how you can say it's not lewd. Everytime I turn it on, something lewd is coming from him. I like their playlists, but all their DJ's are raunchy, and Lex&Terry is on from 6-10am, so I avoid it.
