alvablue
Sorry, another question. Can you test a speaker by checking it's resistance. Is this a reliable way to see if a speaker is operational?
jerohm
About the only way I know of testing a speaker is to apply a sweep over the audible range. Anything short of it, wouldn't catch voice coil problems or strange vibrations. You can create your own test CD with this program: Wavefilegenerator
Andre_Roy
Thanks for the wave file generator
hoggy
Yes I second that. Thanks much. Even though I have the Cardas record sweep it doesn't have all the individual freqs. This could/will come in very handy. hoggy
Deang
I assume you mean testing a driver to see if it's functional? A resistance, or even a continuity check will not tell you much. Consider that resistance is based on the length and thickness of the wire of the voicecoil -- but if the magnet wire making up the voicecoil is shorted -- you will still get a good read on an ohm meter. The poor man's way (my way), is simply to use a C battery -- and touch the leads to the positive and negative poles of the battery. The driver will either push out, or suck in. Reverse the leads on the battery to watch it do the inverse. If the driver reacts -- it's fine.
doudou
thanks for the wave generator, you can test your sub to see how deep he goes,or setup the crossover... thanks a lot!!!
