damonrpayne
I am sort of hijacking michael hurd 's "Odds and Mods" thread. I think the forum could really use an extensive FAQ and "Klipsch newbie" guide. I am as guilty as anyone of asking questions that already have an extensive body of knowledge behind them. Some things that could go in an FAQ or knowledge base might include: 1) What do I get if I buy RX-7 versus Rx-35, etc 2) Collect all the knowledge on the "Heritage center channel" issue 3) why go with tubes or solid state? 4) surround speaker positioning 5) Surround formats (ie "My room is X by X should I do 7.1?") 6) SPL use and general calibration 7) Why buy separates? Obviously there are many many more. If enough people think this is a good idea I'd be happy to take a first stab at one, I like tech writing. I could incorporate all the ideas posted here today in a first draft tonight. I'd for sure like editorial feedback from those wiser than I (which includes 99% of all Klipsch forum members) and I also think we should avoid any of the "extreme controversy" topics. ... or maybe Trey or someone has time to do this instead? I think this could be a fantastic community effort.

Any suggestions for more? ---------------- lol... ummm.... how about 2.5) Physics vs Snake oil 2.6) A How-to guide to flame wars Obviously it would be next to impossible to writing an audio FAQ without a bias... and therefore controversial for a company to post (without PWK at the helm). OTOH there is no reason these could not be gathered from existing posts and placed on an independent server. I did produce a guide to 5) Repair/replacement of diaphragms for the K77 which is on my server. BTW, I particularly like #11 .... Rob PS: I crossposted this into the Odds and Mods? thread as it just made sense to have this with Gil's original response.
damonrpayne
Well, the whole thing would have a Klipsch bias I suppose, and I'm more than happy to host the whole thing on my server, I host a somewhat popular SPL how-to already. I was more looking for people's help in determining the what all should be included, and then commenting on what I've written for accuracy and completeness. Audio myths 1.1. Does wire make a difference 1.2. Do connectors make a difference? 1.3. White Vans 2. Choosing the correct speaker equipment 2.1. InWall vs free standing 2.2. Bookshelf vs Floor standing 2.3. What do I get if I buy RF-7 versus Rf-35, etc 2.4. Separates, Tubes, solid state... 3. Using and caring for your speakers 3.1. Surround speaker positioning 3.2. Subwoofer placement, phase, x-over adjustment 3.3. Rooms and their modes and influences 3.4. Wood care (if it is wood) 3.5. Plastic care. 4. Repairing your speakers 4.1. Damage to woofer cones and use of vacuum cleaners 4.2. Where do I buy parts 4.3. Repair/replacement of diaphragms. 5. Technical information 5.1. Dating your Klipsch speakers 5.2. History and heritage model changes 5.3. Crossover schematics, and which crossovers are best. 5.4. Heritage speaker plans (LaScala, Klipschorn, Cornwall, Heresy, etc...) 6. Tweaking your heritage Klipsch 6.1. Tweeter upgrades 6.2. Mid range upgrades 6.3. Cross over upgrades 6.4. Collect all the knowledge on the "Heritage center channel" issue I could help with 2.1, 3.2, 4.3, and 5.4... as I have posted many times about them. The 6.1 and 6.2 are actually part of an active thread (JBL2404H thread) and John Warren has already posted a page about some of them. Wonder how much interest there would be for this? damonrpayne
That's a good list to start with formica! I'm two pages into it, yes this is going to be a huge undertaking.
BBB
Well Damon, I think tour intentions are good and everyones input makes sense so far. Unfortunately Trey might be right. This may be a job for superman. You may have to make the questions very basic so the answers dont become too controversial. Its a tough one. Perhaps asking the members of each forum to list 5 of the most frequently asked questions that drives them nuts because they are tired of seeing them for the millionth time. I dont know. It might be a place to start.
damonrpayne
Another good idea.
easylistener
They still wont use it. Many other forums have this very thing and people still don't use it. Good luck
