robertl
Hiya, found a semi-local pair of Cornwalls serial #'s 8672805 and 8672806 what year would that be? Owner says there is no Cornwall II on the label. They are horizontal horns. What would be the going price range? $550-950? Cheers and thanks for u'r help. robertl
Ahh Sew! thus the first digits 86, so would that be Cornwall 1?
Frzninvt
1986 was the first year for the Cornwall II, the label will have "Cornwall" on it. But on the first hand written line it will have "CII" which is Cornwall II followed by the finish designation (i.e. BR, WO, WL, OO) if they are in good condition they can easily fall into the price range that you listed. The great thing about the Birch Raw versions of these is that Klipsch veneered the front edges on them so that the plywood ply's would not be visible. I have a pair of '86's and the grain in the Birch on them is very nice, the original owner applied a light oak stain and a satin poly finish and they look very nice. To me the Cornwall II's have a better detailed high end that is easily distinguishable from the original versions and they are a bit more efficient to boot. The ones I have came with no insulation in the interior of the cabinet unlike the Cornwalls in the past but it is easy to apply acoustic panels that can be obtained from Parts Express. fini
Yes, for that age, the first two digits tell the age. Hard to tell just from the serial number if it's a Cornwall (never called 'em 1's), or II's. If you can see them, the main visual difference is that the II's had components mounted from the outside of the motorboard, and no removable back. Cornwall components mount from the inside, and have removable backs. Of course, if you are talking about the ORIGINAL Cornwall II's, they're the ones with the vertical horns, with mountings from the inside, and removable backs! That's right: There were 2 types of II's!

Gilbert
Excuse me dudes and dudettes, but both my older pairs of Cornwalls (1967's and 1968's), have the original labels and the labels designate the speakers as being CORNWALL II. If I remember correctly, about a year or so ago, Andy wrote a lengthy description explaining the differences between the first CORNWALL II's and the later re-introduction version of CORNWALL II's. The only problem is, I don't remember the exact specific's....
