KungFuNat
my heresy serial numbers are HBR 85t705 and 85t706.. the guy i got them from was the original owner. he said he bought them in '76. can you guys tell me when they were actually made, and what type of crossovers they have? is there anything i should have looked at on speakers this old? they sound fantastic to me, but i just want to make sure. are there crossover upgrades i should consider for these? JohnA
Those are the 2nd best configuration. chack to see if the squawker and tweeter have the opposite polarity of the woofer. If not reverse them. If so your only real upgrade is a solder terminal K-55-V and it's a small one.
Seadog
"chack to see if the squawker and tweeter have the opposite polarity of the woofer. If not reverse them." John, Please tell more about this polarity reversal. What is it supposed to do? David
ShapeShifter
Kind of cool how he bought speakers in 1976, that are coded as being made in 1979. Perhaps his memory is a bit rusty.
KungFuNat
so they are '79 heresys huh? how do i check the polarity of the woofer? and what about that soulder terminal? do you mean i should re-saulder it? do you think the crossovers will have withstood the test of time? what does the HBR stand for? thanks guys. Chris Robinson
On the woofer, the two tabs that the wire is soldered to have a red dot on one (or the speaker wire has a red stripe on one) ... That's the positive (+) terminal ... Same for the squawker and tweeter ... HBR means "Heresy Birch Raw" ... meaning they were natural birch plywood and probably refinished to whatever the owner wanted.
