GeorgeV
I have a product guide for the Reference series from 2001 and I noticed that the quote weights of the RF-5 and RF-7 have decreased. RF-5 weight 62 pounds in 2001 and now they are 60 pounds. RF-7 weight 94 pounds in 2001 and now they are 90 pounds. Does anyone have any ideas why the speakers are lighter now? Did Klipsch change the drivers or case in anyway?
Frzninvt
That is the bean counters hard at work to increase profits by cutting manufacturing costs in various areas using alternate materials. Either that or they bought a new and better scale.
Bill H.
Maybe Klipsch is into the Low Carb speaker Diet........... Honestly sounds like something was elimated in production...........They still sound great though.............
DrWho
it could also be a difference in measuring methods...ie, weight of the speaker alone or weight of the speaker in the box. Maybe the Earth too has lost some weight and it's gravitational pull is less
gcoker
The Air today weighs less then it did a few years ago. I think it's due to global warming.

D0N
I hear that the 2006 models are gonna be made from cardboard. You think todays rf7's are light? Watch klipsch cut costs next year!
JewishAMerPrince
Klipsch has probably changed the source of their MDF. MDF manufacturers have made great strides at lightening the materials while at the same time improving it's strength. The prime motivation behind this is ever increasing shipping costs. Freak Nasty
Yep too many people hurt their back trying to lift those speakers, dudes, yeah i nearly pulled my back last time, oh so very painful. Well taking these few kilos still does not help. If you think of it some people can carry 4 sets of Bose lifestyle 35 on their back, how many RF 7 can you?
