Whoa man, summer's here with a vengance-"sidewalks hotter than a matchhead" if you get my drift. Not pushing a theme here, try to avoid that in this partcular thread but the heatwave got me to thinking about summer tunes.

The format's simple, name of artist/group, name of album, type of music (cd/lp etc.), and genre, rock classical, jazz etc. as best you can.

As usual I'll start it off with:

The Boss, Born to Run, cd, rock and definetly roll

Born to Run and summer for me seem to go hand-in-hand, urban cruising, the Jersey Shore, teen hormones, it's got it all. Great songs, great beat and the Boss at his prime. People complain that all of Springstein's stuff is badly recorded, but I tell ya true, it's all right with me.

So what do you have to share.

Tool's "Undertow" - hardrock CD.

Considered the "OK Computer" of Tool's catalogue. Unfortunately, being a 1992 release, the sound quality leaves something to be desired. The epitome of the harsh, edgy CD glare, in fact. As far as musical content, however, it's jam-packed.

Beware! The liner notes contain full-frontal MALE nudity. And sideview nudity of a VERY obese woman. And a dead pig impaled by a dozen forks.

Kraftwerk, Trans-Europe Express, Electro, CD/LP

While I have liked Kraftwerk since I picked up the Autobahn LP when it came out in 1974. Autobahn is still one of my all time favorite songs my Kraftwerk, all 22 minutes of it!

So why did I pick Trans-Europe Express?

Because I like the sone "Hall of Mirrors" even better.

The audio CD was remastered on September 26, 1995 and it does sound good!

If you have never heard of Kraftwerk then visit their site.

Assemblage 23 "Failure", Industrial rock CD.

Released in 2001 this CD is fantastic. The synth work in some places is really excellent but good everywhere. Some of the synth work sounds like VNV Nation's "middle" albums. The vocals are typical treated industrial sounds but the lyrics are actually clever and sound like Covenant in some places.

John Hiatt, "Master of Disaster" CD/SACD -- acoustic folk, pop, blues, country -- heck, it's a bunch of Hiatt songs. Like his former partner Ry cooder, it's hard to pinpoint his style.

But the lyrics are great, so is the music, and a bonus here is that this is a multi-channel SACD masquerading as a CD. Yep -- I found it in the CD section at BB with no SACD notation other than some fine print on the back, and sure enough, it plays analog 6-channel, too.

"Tori Amos's seventh album, Scarlet's Walk, was released in October of 2002. It was recorded at her home studio, Martian Engineering, in Cornwall, England. It was her first album to be released by Sony/Epic Records."

Oh man, you should have brought that over to malotky's place...I love industrial, espeially VNV Nation. Never heard of assemblage 23 though so I'll have to go check em out.

I have to officially recommend the Godsmack dvd, "Changes." It's recorded in dts was mixed exceptionally well and the musicianship is wild. I don't know anything about godsmack other than its hard rock and I need more of it. 2.gif

Formally with the Cream.

Graeme Edge is the drummer with Moody Blues. Actually considered one of the top drummers in the world to this day.

That is why I am looking for "KICK OFF YOUR MUDDY BOOTS" on CD. It's Graeme Edge's group with Ginger Baker sharing the roll of drummer.

I've gone retro plus current this week.

Linda Ronstadt: "Get Closer" - CD - Classic Rock ('80s)

I'm a die hard Ronstadt fan. There's a cross section of

styles on this CD. Favorite track: "I Think It's Gonna Work

Out Fine". It's a great duet with Jame Taylor.

Greg Kihn: "Kihnsolidation - The Best of Greg Kihn" - CD - Classic Rock

About half of this music holds up well. Favorite track: "The

Breakup Song (They Don't Write Em').

The Click Five: "The Click Five EP" - CD - New School Power Pop

This band has a debut album "Greetings From Imrie House"

coming out the middle of August. Love to see them in concert

but unfortunately they're opening for The Backstreet Boys and

can't tolerate them. Guess I'll have to wait until they're a

headliner. Favorite track: "Angel To You (Devil To Me)". This

was co-written by Paul Stanley of KISS and the guitar solo is

from Elliot Easton of The Cars.

Duran Duran: "Astronaut" - DualDisc - Rock

I listened to this in 5.1. I enjoyed this better than the stuff

they did when they were popular. They've still got the chops.

Favorite track: "What Happens Tomorrow"

Get these 2 albums:

1) Faceless - their best.

2) The Other Side - an SACD of their songs in acoustic. It rules.
