sunnysal
I am afraid my shootouts are coming to an end. I have been lucky enough for the last ten years to be in touch with a group of local audio-nuts. Well, yesterday the last of this crew shipped out (most were diplomats or managers for multinational companies operating en El Salvador). I am pretty sure I am the last remaining "audiophile" in the country of El Salvador. High-end here is normally thought to mean a matching stack of black Sony components. Perhaps the bright side is that without others around to spur me on I may now be able to get off the audio merry-go-round and stop lusting after new components. Warm regards from sunny El Salvador, Tony
Daddy Dee
Tony, Seeing the bright side of having less audio gear temptation is a good attitude for living in one lonely country. Thank God for the forum, eh? We'll ask Amy to add "grief counseling" as a subtitle to the Two Channel Forum.
tillmbil
Sounds bad. Sorry to here your troubles. You are going to have to start a stereo cult of your own and start a new audiophile craze yourself.
dubai2000
Tony, I don't want to cloud your 'bright side', but it's my experience that the internet still brings up more than enough audio options to lust after.....at least that's my experience as a rather isolated Klipsch/tube listener here in Germany . sunnysal
lol, the internet surely IS enough to keep the fires burning! I don´t think there will be another audio-cult down here soon. first, there is not even one high-end store in El Salvador (or the rest of Central America even AFAIK) and second it will take a few years for one or two guys to trickle down here again who love audio, most plan to spend two years here and bering a boom-box (why schlep big audio stuff with you to the third world, especially to the country with the highest murder rate in the western hemisphere). don´t cry for me though, I still get to listen to amazing music and, as mentioned, can spend time on the internet and reading magazines to fuel my personal audio-monster! regards, tony
krustyoldsarge
You're making me feel good about my situation here in S. Korea. Here you pay double-price for anything worth having when you can find it, but at least you CAN find it (like my ChorusII's), even if it takes years. Best of luck there, and like Wolfram said, the internet will keep the lust level high, for better or for worse!
