Tubes out the wazoo!

I went to a large estate auction on Saturday and ended up buying tons

of tubes. I don't know anything about tubes but there must be a

few hundred of em out in one of my shops and even some more in the back

of my suburban that I've been too lazy to unload. The gentleman

that owned all of this stuff was an avid ham operator and electronic

tinkerer and had many other interests. Anyway, I only wanted a

couple of things but by the time they were auctioning off the radio and

electronics equipment they were lumping stuff into pallet sized lots

that I ended buying for anywhere from one to five dollars per

lot. Some of this stuff I didn't even bid on but they put it on

my bidder number for one dollar, against my protests, as some kind of

auctioneers joke. Anyway I have tubes out the wazoo. Most

are still in original boxes. There only a few codes that I

recognize - like I said I don't know anything about tubes.

Along with the boxes of tubes I ended up with a Dynaco ST80, a Dynaco

PAT4, a Bogen PA type amp thing, a Raymer 870-15A receiver, an RCA

oscilloscope, a signal generator, a signal tracer, a tube tester, an

ohm meter, a dip meter, a pair of NOS 12 inch Utah 3-way speakers, more

little speakers, a pair of interesting looking heavy amps, a bunch of

old electronic magazines and couple old cataloges, and more stuff that

I haven't unloaded yet - there might be a ham radio or short wave

receiver still in there. There was even a box that had some

Shinola in it. So help me figure out how to tell sh!t from

Shinola.

Here is a list of the tube codes (this isn't all of them) and all the

tubes are USA brands (except for an Argentinian "Valvula"):

6U8A, 6005W, 6360, 6U8A, 5149,

5915, 6BA6/EF93, 35W4/HY90, 50C5/HL92.

6K7, 35Z5GT, 12SJ7GT, 12SK7M, 12SA7, 2A6,

2A5, 2A3 (two of these double black plate), 84, 6Z4,

12CX6, 6157, 3BZ6, 12SN7GT, 1R5,

6SA7, 12SA7, 6R7, 6663/6AL5, 12X4,

12SQ7GT, 5U4GB, 5Y4GT, HZ90/12X4, 12BW4,

6AG5, 5750, 6CL6, 6BA6, 6AL7, 7193,

6N7, 6BQ5, 12BY7A, 5Y3WGT, 12AJ6,

6JH6, 2HA5, 50L6GT, 50FE5, 3Q4,

50B5, 12AD6, 5U4G, 6L6G, 24A, 12H7,

E7, 829B (big mutha), 6GH8A, ST71A,

5U4GB. Also three or four oscilloscope or display CRTs( I think -

military anyway). There are some bags and boxes of loose tubes

and some of those are labeled as tested good or bad - haven't gone

through these yet.

What brand are the 2a3? I have a pair of

nice SET trannys for those, maybe it's time to build them. Finally.

The pair of 2A3s are Penta Laboratories (Santa Barbara, CA) dated 08/87

on the box. I don't know if they are matched or even good.

They both look new. Chalieboy PMed me last night about those so

he gets first crack if he wants them. It would be good to get

them to someone that can use them if they're suitable. I'm

willing to give someone a good deal on those. I'm into this whole

truckload of stuff for about $45 - I figure that the Dynaco amp &

preamp are worth that just to have in my garage.

I'll put together a complete inventory soon to send off to the tube

dealers on the web, it looks there might be some they want. The

owner was a ham operator and antique radio collector so maybe some of

the other tubes could be useful to someone. I'll

post the list here first though. I'll let Duke send all of the

duds to

his friends in Nigeria. [;)]
