Zealot125
I picked up a pair of advent speakers at a garage sale for 30 bucks. Digital camera not working right now, but they sound pretty nice. Anyone know anything about Advent model U339069? Thats all of the info that I can see on them, that and that they say "Advent Corporation - Cambridge, Massachusetts"
IndyKlipschFan
While growing up (OK well getting older..lol) that was a good name. The important thing is for 30 bucks if working, probably a great deal if you like them too!
Deang
Do they look like this?

customsteve01
Those are nice Speakers Dean. I'll give you $30.00 bucks for them[] Steve
Zealot125
YES, almost exactly on the nose, except the tweeter and woofer look like they are in a bit better condition from what I can tell from the picture. They are nearly mint. Also the front edge is squared away, not (beveled?) and the area surrounding the woofer is black. Can you point me to some specs? TBrennan
http://www.classicspeakerpages.net. Try that website, has info on Advent and other speakers of the AR "family". The Advent was a good speaker of it's type and still has a following. It's a better speaker IMO than many "high-end" type modern speakers with chinless woofers and tragic domes. Myhamish
Congratulations on your garage sale find. A couple weeks ago, I scored some KEFs under similar circumstances. And they are quite amazing - especially the bottom end when A\Bed with the LaScalas. Back in the old college days (sigh), it was the rage to double up on the Advents and hook a pair on each side in parallel (more violins better than one big violin theory). Then get the Yes albums out. So keep an eye open for another pair and have fun looking. Hamish
RichardP
They should be good speakers for a second system, etc. They were highly praised in their time, especially for a 2-way system. My first "good" stereo system, purchased in 1975, included the Small Advent speakers. When they were stolen a few year later, I replaced them with the Large Advent Speakers. When those, in turn, were stolen in 1989, I replaced them with Klipsch Fortes, and never looked back. I have heard the Advent tweeters colloquiually labelled as "fried egg" drivers. Deang
"Fried Egg" -- because of how they look, not because of how they sound. So, the Advents are worth stealing, but the Fortes aren't.
