Bill H.
Tom, Thanks for the reply. WOW...........One question- do they no longer make the K 77? Is that why you recommended used?
Tom Mobley
I don't know whether they still make it or not, but Klipsch has always charged a super premium price for it, last I remember hearing was over $250 apiece or so. No thanks. Bob Crites (BEC here on the forum) has reproduced it, I believe it's available now. Klipschs price on the K-33 and the K-401 horn are unbeatable though. I think Bob stocks the K-33 too. That allowance for the crossover is for a premium item like a few of the guys here offer. It could be done cheaper, maybe much cheaper, but it's the old "get what you pay for" deal. Daddy Dee
I went out and looked at this and thought, wow it's still hasn't sold. Sounds like a really good price. However, upon further reflection.... Tom, you have got a pretty good estimate of how much it would cost to get the drivers and crossover inside. Then one would have maybe $750 in a pretty rough single Khorn cab. Not to mention the cost of driving to pick up. $1500 could buy a pair of "decent" Khorns if one lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Doesn't look like so good a deal with these considerations. The price of parts al a carte is what hurts in DIY projects.
DizRotus
I'm considering this only as a bass bin, therefore, I'm not concerned about the cost of all of the components (other than woofer). Is there anything about the fact that it was made in 1956 that should concern me? Thanks for any input.
Tom Mobley
you'll find a large 6 x 13" roundish hole for the woofer, not the 3 x 13 " slot suitable for the K-33. It either had or still has a separate removeable motorboard for the woofer. One member here, Larry C, reported good results with simplifying the deal. His had some extra pieces inserted on the front side of the front wall of the woofer chamber. He removed these and noticed a definite improvement in sound quality. My '60s have similar pieces mounted on the front of the removeable motorboard. You will have inspect the cabs to see what you have. Should be interesting . khorn51
The top section was designed to fit the larger early wood/glaass mid horn. I have a extra mid horn and t35 hmmm I also have a 59 that could be paired witth this. Ps khorn 51 is the same a s khorn58
DizRotus
I have an appointment to go see it this afternoon. If it appears to be solid, Ill be tempted to make an offer. I have warehouse space where it could sit until I, or another Forum member, have the time and money to return it to service. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It seems like its worth $195.00 just to avoid constructing a DIY bass bin. Whats it worth intact (without drivers)? Id be reluctant to further part it out if someone could use it to match a similar older model. What Im trying to articulate, is that Id consider tying up $195.00 if theres a probability that another Forum member could later take it off my hands (out of the warehouse) or that I could incorporate it into a DIY project as a bass bin only. What should I do?
