wuzzzer
My old Sony 200 disc changer sounds terrible with my system. I simply use it as a CD storage device now and play music through a $50 Magnavox DVD player. Sounds pathetic, I know, but the Magnavox sounds much better than the Sony. I want to get a new/used DVD player that has excellent CD audio also. I'd be looking in the $200 +- price range. Let me know which ones to consider. Thanks! JeffDurbin
Try OPPO at www.oppodigital.com. Read all about it at www.avsforum.com. It has a huge fan base and plays all the different DVDs and CDs. $199 or so direct from OPPO or at Amazon.com.
wuzzzer
Thanks! I found out about the Oppo after I posted the question. I understand the picture quality is outstanding with the Faroudja. How about the audio output?
aviserated
Be sure it has good error correction capabilities. Some bootleged and scratched disc will not play on some players.
Audio Flynn
Look at used 4-6 yaer od DACs on Audiogon for about $ 200 http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1135657600 I own 2 MSB DACs and am very pleased with them. I have considered picking up an older used Meridian like this one. For less than $ 500 I would plug any player into an outboad DAC; just getting the DAC away from the transport circiut will reduce jitter. Everyone I have known to have a DAC find them to be the best non fatigueing digital playback for less than $ 700 or more expensive dedicated CD player. As for DVD players, to many compromises for best CD playback.
audiobliss69
Don't know anything about it from personal experience, but I've read a lot of good things about the Cambridge Audio Azur 540D. May be worth investigating.
Audio Flynn
http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1135431879 Older Rotel CD players sound pretty nice. Solid build quality.

wheelman
Used older AMC cd players aren't to shabby either. The newer ones have a tube in them. Not sure about mine.
