D-MAN
I ran across a few apparently DIY speakers on the web, here's a few that caught my eye. DM
D-MAN
Another. The clear wood internal, black painted external scheme is an interesting touch. However, the "purple" is a pretty horrible combination. But in DIY, you use what you got, but why not paint the horns purple, too? on the outside, of course. D-MAN
Nuther. The styrofoam fill is somewhat pointless IMO in that it has no particular ability to absorb or dampen. I would have gone with the old standby like fiberglass, etc. if it were me. But perhaps I'm just being nit-picky. Just thought I'd mention it so new DIY's don't fall for this gag! D-MAN
This is the horn from the previous pic, this is interesting: note the base for the top cab follows the curve of the horn. Too bad we can't see it completed, it is a nice aesthetic touch and would really make these standout.

D-MAN
Found it: A few of these came from the Vitavox system owners link on the Vitavox website. Others are from other places that I don't remember. http://website.lineone.net/~empson/Owners.html DM
oscarsear
Ah well the conveyance of well reproduced sound is often produced by the uglier of the ducklings. S'pose when you make your own that the sound quality factor supersedes the WAF factor.
D-MAN
Agreed. Some of these would have a very high WAF if it wasn't for that GIANT sectoral horn on the tops! They look like they could kick your a** just sitting there in your room! Or fall over on you and kill you. That could be part of the thrill! That is sort of cool all by itself - I guess it's the EXPECTATION that the appearance alone brings to the table. DM

TBrennan
These are interesting, saw them on ebay a few weeks ago. Pioneers, kind of a Khorn copy. I wouldn't be surprised if they sounded pretty good.

Marvel
D-Man, That second pic can be found on Bert Doppenberg's website. The purple horns are his, and the bottoms are one of the earlier Pi Speakers cabinets on their sides with the excess cut away. Other than the colors I find them pretty cool. They don't look that big until you compare them to the chair in the photo. If you go to his site and click on the showroom link you can see lots more with his horns. One guy is a dentist and has a pair in his office pointing at the patient's chair. The sweet spot! http://www.diy-systems.com/ Bruce
