Allan Songer
I think you should save your money. But thats just me. Have you heard enough of PB to know you want to hear more? I own one. I never play it.
Mick Bell
I have her album "Nightclub" and enjoy listening to it.
psg
I like Cafe Blue and Second Contribution (titles from memory... could be wrong). If I had to pick one, probably Cafe Blue.
Number 9
I agree with Allan. Her singing style is not for everyone. She leaves me cold, cold ... make sure you know what you are getting in to.
Audio Flynn
I like the instrumentals more than the singing. "Nightclub" is good. Allan do you like any new lady jazz singers introduced in the past 20 years?

robster
Thanks guys.. I'll put Patricia Barber on the bottom of my to buy list. I have a mint minus Jennifer Warnes "Famous Blue Raincoat" Lp for trade,I think I paid $20 for it which included shipping from Canada. The one I have for trade has light surface noise,I cleaned it on my VPI 16.5 but is still noisy,it's a Canada pressing on Attic. I just got a RCA pressing that is nearly dead quiet. Painful Reality
Thanks guys.. I'll put Patricia Barber on the bottom of my to buy list. IRobert In the case of Patricia Barber, the bottom of the list is still too close for comfort. Obliteration from the list is quite better. jheis
I agree with Allan's list. However, I REALLY like Patricia Barber as well. I recommend "Verse" or "Modern Cool." Two recordings that get lots of play in my system. Sure, some of Patricia Barber's early stuff is uneven, but so is Cassandra Wilson's early work - and some of her more recent stuff leaves me cold - as much as I like her voice. Listen for yourself and make up your own mind. If you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. James
garymd
I have to agree with Allan here. Save your money! Boomac talked me into buying the one that has that great Sonny Bono tune, "And The Beat Goes On" and while the recording is top notch, I can't stand the album. I can't remember the title but it's awful IMO! Edit: It's titled "Companion."
jheis
"...that great Sonny Bono tune, "And the Beat Goes On." There you have it folks, a concise definition of non sequitur. James
Allan Songer
It's not the tune. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that Peggy Lee could have made that tune BURN . . . PB is annoying.
Parrot
For darn sure, Patricia Barber is no Peggy Lee.

Colin
I have most, if not of of PBs albums and like each one for different reasons. I rank her up there with Cassandra Wilson. Her voice is equally good, but her music stylings lean to the eclectic, more experimental jazz. Any of the aforementioned discs would be fine they are all best sellers for her.[H]
D-MAN
Anyone that DOESN'T like Patricia Barber is not only tonedeaf, but is probably a COMMUNIST, to boot! "Modern Cool" is VERY cool. I loaned it out and it never came back; you would think I'd learn, right?! NOT! DM
