Looking for opinions on the best BIG display I can get that doesn't have those two horrid vertical trinitron lines. I believe that excludes any aperature grille monitor over 17" ? I'm looking at a viewsonic 21" shadow mask monitor and the dell 24" LCD right now but I just want a BIG display for gaming.

I have a ViewSonic 19". I got it at CopmUSA back in April. I love it. I think I picked it up for around $450.00 with a $50.00 mail in rebate. Model v910. I always have herd that for gaming that you want to use a crt screen. I also have a 19"Crt screen. But it just took up so much room. I love the flat screen. Dan

Heck, just get yourself a projector with a mini-screen - a friend of

mine had a setup like this and he had to zoom the projector in all the

way which resulted in a great great picture (and was larger than any

monitor you could find). With the right screen it is also easier on

your eyes.

I picked up a samsung 19" 930B LCD recently. Been pretty happy with it,

no screen tearing in games. One thing to remember about the LCDs is

that a 19" LCD has a larger viewing area than a 19" CRT. The viewing

area on a 19" LCD is closer to a 21" crt.

A downside to the really big LCDs is the high native resolution. The

LCDs generally look the best at their native res. I saw a 24" LCD on

Dell's site with a native res of 1920x1200. Gaming at that high a res

is going to lower your framerate quite a bit. The native res on most

19" LCDs is 1280x1024, which is a lot easier on the video card.

I have a 27" tube flat screen wega HD TV and I would never consider using it for a computer display...though you could probably get good results going with one of the slimline LCD displays. However you would be greatly sacrificing quality for size, unless you were planning on spending big bucks.

I actually have a 23" CRT at home and it is by far the best monitor I've seen (though that's not saying much) [;)] So they do exist, but they are fricken huge and very heavy. Definetly not something you would put on a card table.

Damon this was something like I was refering too. It's a bit pricey though, nice response time for the size.

Here is a little fact from neweggs site.

LCD TV Monitors

LCD TV monitors are televisions and PC monitors at the same time. They can also be used with DVDs, DVRs, and VCRs. They differ technologically from plasma TVs, but the two are often confused. Plasma screens also cannot double as PC monitors.

why not go with one of those mac widescreen displays? talk about a great + huge image [:D]

You're joking right? Thoes monitors have to be the biggest piece of

crap available, a nice Samsung panel ruined by Apples inability to make

a proper controller for it, 1000:1 contrast ratio blasted down to

400:1, blacks that look like grays, and NO way to change any of the

displays settings on Linus or Windows, as it requires Apples

intergrated monitor software to adjust brightness and other settings.

Not to mention the price, it's a typical Apple product for the typical

Apple fanboy.

Go with the 24" Dell Widescreen LCD, last I looked it was $899 on sale

from $1300 which it regularly is it may not have the best viewing

angle, but you can not beat it for the price. The panel in the Dell is

also made by Samsung. Note that the Dell LCD's ship with the brightness

and contrast settings too high, and don't look good until you adjust

them. Also it's not 1000:1 contrast ratio its really 617:1. The sad

thing is that most specs on LCD's these days is bulls**t marketing

schemes, basicly if you see any LCD with 1000:1 or higher contrast

ratio in its description, it's a lie, there is no technology for that

out yet, infact Samsung one of the worlds best LCD panel makers totally

lies about their 3000:1 contrast ratio LCD TV's when in reaility they

are truely around 750:1.

Or if you have the money go with a 24.1" Eizo FlexScan S2410W professional level LCD, they are around $1900 but are the best in terms of quality, and color reproduction.

I'm not one that cares much about video quality, but I think calling it a piece of crap is a bit extreme...It is by far the least fatiguing monitor I've ever worked with.

The new Dell 3007 is coming at the end of December: 30" of LCD glory.

2560 x 1600 resolution (>1080p), 12ms response rate, etc....

Will likely sell between $1500-2000.
