Gainclone Amps

Not Klipsch but I've been using a gainclone with Altec 605As and been very pleased. The sound is clear and open with no nastiness and dynamics are sufficient for condo living. I was less pleased using the amp with the Heresys I used to own but the amp wasn't at fault, I tired of the speakers; with Klipsch speakers I like (Cornwalls or Fortes say) I'm confident the gainclone would have been fine.

I've heard various gainclones sounding very good on Altecs, Edgar Titans, JBLs, Lowthers and Supravox-Orises: they can do an excellent job and can be up to use with any good horn speakers.

My opinion ya understand.

Irwin,

The NAD in your profile will easily outperform the gainclone type stuff.

Gainclone is for the DIY type: "Look what I just did! I built an amp

and I did it all by myself! And look at how little it is!" Strictly for

the Gee willikers crowd at a high school science fair.

C'mon Paul, the "Not Another Defect! 3120" is a bit like a Cambridge Audio, the type of amp that you'll be able to buy for rather cheap and won't make you run out of the room for aspirins.

I've heard a couple of Gain Clone that were pretty good surely better than this NAD.

Other pretty horrible it must be said...

This being said, if you were going for a showdown with Irishman Tommy, I'll just stand back and enjoy the firework!

I visited a guy here in Houston who built a gainclone version to use with his Lowthers. It might not have been the end-all amplifier, but to describe it as a science fair project is.....well......rather typical in this specific situation. It was made very well and sounded excellent. Given the volume at which we listened, I can say I would have opted for the tone and air of a good 2A3 amplifier or a couple of OTLs I have heard. It was still a very good amplifier.

What a surprise! You could knock me over with a feather. I'm trying to

remember something you've ever heard that you didn't like.

Not that your post even makes sense. It sounded excellent, but not as

good as some SET amp? Then it drops to "very good" from "excellent."

Which was it, excellent or very good? How could it be excellent if it

wasn't even as good as a SET amp, which is the single worst topology

amp that there is?

Erik has been replaced by an Erikclone amp. I remember when you used to

post sensible things. Perhaps the doctors mixed up your meds? Or maybe

it's that bad guy you're running around with, you know, the guy who

taught you all about fake surround sound and drove you to headphones.

Is the new forum software what is causing everyone to be so full of themselves lately? It doesn't matter what anyone says and someone is jumping all over them.

This was really uncalled for, Marvel.

Actually Marvel made a good point!!

What do you know? You don't even like CROWN.

So Parrot exactly what are you trying to accomplish with these type of responces?
