ben.
Man, I just love this place! Apparently everything and everyone sucks. Seems about right... My stereo has been quite static of late as I'm really pretty happy. The only new toys I've been playing with have been borrowed: Orban 424A & SpectraSonics 610 Comp/Limiters AKG 451 w/ short shotguns & prototype CK4 bidirectional capsules Beyer M500 (an old friend, truth be told) Beyer M260 Good times, I must say. Latest grin on the hifi was a really mint Joni record, "Shadows & Light". I had only heard the CD until now, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the double LP. Parrot
Latest grin on the hifi was a really mint Joni record, "Shadows & Light". I had only heard the CD until now, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the double LP. Sad that her great career is over. Would've been better in its totality without the last two clunkers of albums recorded with an orchestra backing her cigarette-ravaged voice. And now she churns out greatest hits and other repackages right and left. How many has she got out now, six of them or something?
pauln
I only have one Joni, its the live concert in SF "Miles of Isles" I think about '73. Its a double album and it is amazing. The first and last sides she is accompanied by Tom Scott and the LA Express, but the two middle sides are all Joni - different tunings on the guitar, dulcimer, a little piano. The quality of this live perforance is superb. Girl with Guitar at its best.
Zen Traveler
I'm sure I didn't make the "Deans list." At least not the 10% one. [] I told him of my HT situation when I met him in Indy this year and he told me I probably wouldn't appreciate his crossovers. []
Deang
"I probably wouldn't appreciate his crossovers." I must have placed you into the half deaf category. Seriously though, that's not what I said. From what I do remember about that conversation you told me you primarily use the system for movies -- and you were fairly insistant that you liked them just the way they are. The upgrade/mod provides the most benefit for those who primarily use their systems for music, and feel that the top end of that speaker is a bit strident/overbearing and dominates in such a way that the midrange is left behind. Though I'm sure I give the impression that the mod is the only way to go -- I really don't like talking someone into making the change if they're content with the sound they're getting. If you are interested, and after things slow down a bit -- I would be willing to lend you a set to see what you think.
Parrot
Having listened to this conversation between TKD and Dean, I would like to offer my impression. Dean was not criticizing TKD's system or ears; it was more of a thing like "If you're happy with what you already have, don't change it." I was impressed that Dean went out of his way NOT to push his crossovers. TKD was practically selling himself on them, and Dean was urging him to take it slowly or not do it at all, even though Dean makes hundreds of thousands of dollars selling networks and was losing a sale. Zen Traveler
I did express to Dean that I listen to multichannel, pretty much exclusively, and I agree with Parrot on how he characterized the conversation. I also expressed to Dean that I was ecstatic about my system, but (as anyone who hangs out here for any length of time and own RF-7's) was curious about Dean's crossovers. It was nice meeting both fellows and I appreciate the advice I got from them and others. []
