Phase One is now complete

Well I have finally finished phase one of the new HT. You will notice

in the pics that there is some molding missing but thisis because the

stage will be going into this area and there is no need for molding

there. The outside lobby area or entry into the HT still needs some

minor items but I do not consider this to be part of phase one.

Phase two will be the completion of the columns which I hope to have

done by mid week. Next weekend will be the start of phase 3 which is

the stage.

Here are some pics of the inside of the HT. It is quite sparse at this time but that will change soon enough.

Great suggestion! No its storage for all of my laserdisc's.But I have

always wanted to add a monitor. I will probably do that when I add my

HTPC, but until then it's LD storage. The nice thing here is if I need

to get to the power conditioner I take out the LD and the bottom comes

out revealing all of my power hookups and cable/sat supply lines.

I made a couple of errors in design but I don't think most would notice unlike me.

Thanks for the nice comments Tom

Scooter: Outstanding work, man! I like the wall color along with the white trim. Very classy-looking! Thanks for sharing your progress with us all. Nice job. It looks very comfortable in there. Nice size room.

Very nice HT Scooter, you should be proud.

Those chairs look so comfortable. I see some zzzzz's coming from your HT[:)]

I have one question, do you get any projector light showing up on your

beam covering that drops down between your projector and screen.

If you do, it may get anoying. You may want to paint that a

darker color so it does not reflect.

That is the reason I have the black boarder around my HT screen.

Having the excess light sucked up makes the colors on the screen look

much better.

JM,

I so agree with the light bleeding. I have taken great care to make

sure the beam does not pose a problem. The gray is pretty dark and it,

as all the paint is flat. I bought 3 drop down pipes for my projector

mount to make sure I had it the right height. Plus my mount is

completely adjustable while the projector is mounted to it. I use a

series of compression springs that allows me to adjust side to side, up

or down, or corner by corner. And if I neded to rotate it I simple

twist the wood that all of this is mounted to and it turn the pipe. I

left enough tension in the pipe to do this while remainig rock solid.

So what I'm saying is the beam poses no problems at all. Do you have a

projector? I can take some pics of the mount if you are interested. It

cost me about 25 bucks in parts to make and beats the heck out of the

$200.00 ones you see out there.

Once I get into the stage and screen I will be using black duvetine

curtains to provide my masking. My new screen is made out of Sintra and

is 12mm thick 60"x120" white. will enventualy be a constant height

56"x116" anamorpic screen at approx.132"diag screen .once I figure out

how to sneak a 600 buck lens passed the wife. Until then I will still

be using the Sintra but screen size will be about 110" diag.

But the next step in scooter's ht is finishing his columns.

That room is really coming out great... and in record time.

I can take some pics of the mount if you are

interested. It cost me about 25 bucks in parts to make and beats the

heck out of the $200.00 ones you see out there.

I'd be interested... I just happen to be considering building one myself...

Great work, Scooter. Re your proposed 132 inch screen - do you think you will lose some brightness? With my current Panasonic PT-AE700E, I reckon max screen size will be around 110 inch. At the moment I'm running a 95 inch pull down screen which isn't big enough for me.

Ed,

On the brightness issue on a 132" screen. To be honest at 106" right now I have it running on low power and have had to turn the brightness down some. I also understand that the use of an anamorphic lens actually increases the brightness some. I fighure I have the ability to scale the size if needed since I am starting out with an overall screen size of 60"x120". Time will tell.

I'll take some pics for you. I think I also

have the original link to the avs forum where I got the plans for it.

I'll look tonight and see what I can come up with.

Just wondering if you've had time to dig out that link and grab a couple of pics? [;)]
