Belles Down Under

Mark, are you talking "sheen?" The product I used on the Belles (Bartley gel varnish) only comes in satin. Perhaps a few more coats are needed. As an alternative product, I've been using General Finishes Arm-R-Seal a lot lately. I'm almost certain it would be compatible with the Bartley finish. It comes in satin, semi-gloss, and gloss. Mt. Storm carries it, you can probably find it up your way, too.

Are your Belles walnut oiled? If so, you may want to try using some Watco Rejuvinating oil, which I believe is basically boiled linseed oil with possibly some other things in there. I've used some on my walnut oil khorns and it does come out quite nice, leaves a little bit of a shine to them. Of course you have to re-oil them every six months or so, but it does look quite nice.

By some very astute detective work, I've identified the seller. This was the same person that offerred Belles to me last year, about the same time I bought my Klipschorns. When I went back to him, he told me they were sold, so I discounted buying any Belles becaue they are very rare in Australia.

Something funny is going on. Sherlock Holmes is on the trail...
