Deang
I was just wondering how much attenuation you're using. When you post, please tell me the speaker, the network you are using, and how far off the speakers you sit. Thanks.
D-MAN
I used -6 db on mine. You can run them "hot", I did when using the ALK-A crossover. When I finally got an ESN with the ability to attenuate, it ended up that I preferred -6 db. Listening position is about 11 or 12 feet back, speakers separated in 15" corners. jwc
Dean you may Know my deal but I will contribute. Currently have the JBL 2404 in my CS-dbb's which have 2 K33's and a K55/Altec 511b. The network is a type A with no attenuation on the JBL tweeter. Wil test run the the network you suggested and repost here w/o any attenuation. Forgot to post that I listen about 10-12 ft away. jc
3dzapper
Dean, I have ALK Type A networks and ALtenuators set at -3Db. My sweet spot is at 12' from each corner horn but even when sitting at my computer 9' away from the right Khorn, the 2404 is very balanced. Deang
No. You need new networks and some Trachorns -- then you can start cleaning up all that stuff cluttering up your house.

ZAKO
Duke ...You couldn,t give your children away. ....The 2404 is a good tweet but so is the TAD 703 another contender to the throne.
hwatkins
Ok - not on a Khorn , but Maron's advise was my rule of thumb. In my speakers they were about 2 db hot verses the mid horn - down 2 db and all was hunky dory...
MarkF
Klipschorns: I use ALK ES crossover 5800 with the JBL 2404H tweeters and it is well integrated to the sqawker at -4db at about 20 feet from the speaker. I use the Altec 288 16H and Altec 311-60 horns and the ES400T is set at 0, 3 taps and it is well integrated to both the woofer and the tweeter. My system was measured using the CLIO, a PC based audio measuring system. This system can measure impedance, component values of inductors and capacitors. Most important, the time-domain and frequency response, both amplitude and phase, of drivers and systems can be measured. It also measures room reverberation time, SPL sound levels, and sundry other stuff. Main system: The amps I use are Welborne DRD 45 and the Welborne 2A3 with a passive line control, turntable is the VPI HRX, CD the Njoe Tjoeb with 24-Bit/192kHz upsampling board. ( the difference is in the tubes), DH labs wiring, McIntosh MR67 tuner. Second system: LaScalla's with ALK crossover, DuKane 300 cycle horns with JBL 2420 drivers, EV T-350 tweeters, Cary 2A3 SE amp, Cary SLP98L or FT Audio Little Wonder Passsive and Tjoeb CD. sunnysal
yow mark! nice setup...I take it you like the dukane less than the 311? or was it a "this driver goes with that" kinda thing? I would love to hear that main system triamped with an active crossover, you pretty much have mounted what I want to do...warm regards, tony
MarkF
Tony, I have tried a number of driver and horn combination, tweeters, crossovers, wiring, amps, preamps both passive and active and not to say that every iteration has been great nor that my system is perfect. There is always room for improvement. My evaluation process is to always set up and listen, then when I think I have it sounding superb then I measure to see if my ears are deceiving or not. In some cases my ears deceive but I have found that when it measures good and sound good is when both come together and it is good. I think many of us, including myself make corrections in our music system to make up for deficencies elsewhere. One of those areas is the mid frequency sqawker. Many have a tendency to attenuate the sqawker to make up for bad components and reduce the shrill. The stock Khorn, IMO, sounded awful due to the sqawker driver/horn combo and the dividing network. The woofer was excellent and the tweeter was certainly passable, but the sqawker was lacking.
